Hello, I am about four weeks out from basic and i just broke my wrist at soccer practice, It is a complete fracture of the radius. The doctor said I will be in a cast for 3-4 weeks. After that, I will be with a brace. What is the likelihood of getting a waiver, and if so, how long does that type of thing last? Also, would I be allowed to wear a brace during bct?
thanks,
luke

None of us can answer this. Honestly you need to call admissions and have copies of all documents. Your doctors notes need to be very thorough to include prognosis for activity by R Day.

Sorry for your luck. That's a tough situation. If turned away this year, maybe the academy will let you enter with the class of 22. That is why you see the "bubble wrap" comments here. It can happen to anyone. You have a life to live though and have to keep doing the things that make you who you are.

Best of luck. Things happen for a reason. Whatever the outcome, you'll get your chance.

Did you mean I Day? I hope for this appointee it really is R Day because as a nurse I don't see that as an issue. Having a complete fracture ready to go for the activity expected by I-day is a much different thing.

I-Day is the inprocessing day for BCT (basic). Unless you are cleared for activity with no limitations by then, your appointment may be in jeopardy.

In addition you need to contact DoDMERB to notify them that your medical condition has changed. However, guidance from admissions may be the best place to start.

Wow! That really bites. Agree that you should contact DoDMERB immediately to get your ball rolling. Try to stay positive and keep your chin up, even if you become a medical turn back.

1+ Maplerock - things happen for a reason and you will make it through this disappointment. Good luck to you.

DoDMERB... IMMEDIATELY.
Have all medical documents immediately to hand, and ready to fax.

Sorry for your luck.

One of my sons suffered a mild concussion cleaning his room with the crazy twin brother in May before I-day. He was cleared and ready to go.
