What Luigi is stating that the kid who is ranked as the 40th best candidate can lose out in this system and still be better than the 10th best candidate from a state where the educational system is lower or less competitive.
For example CA is very competitive and due to that fact they may be more qualified than the candidate who comes from Alabama, but the Alabama candidate wins the nom and the appointment. Thus, in Luigi's opinion there are lower quality candidates.
This may be true, but if we go from stats alone, you can see that those appointed have incredibly strong stats to begin with, so what are we truly talking about 10 more points on the SAT? I don't think you are going to see a wide range between the number 40 and the number 10. Additionally, there are prep schools for a reason, and that is to give them one more yr of academics before entering an SA. Which if placed into the median scores, my guess that would be why the median is about 1330 for the AFA. I would bet if those candidates appointed were removed you would see the median jump up some more.
By following that line of giving just to the highest 1600 WCS, than what would the class look like for NAPS, or do we just ditch that program totally?
