A post on the USMA subforum reminded me that I'm actively looking at getting new cell phones for myself and two oldest children.

My contract w/ ATT expired but unfortunately, the two sons' contracts (ATT family plan) expire later this year or early next year. Because I babied my Sony Erickson until the screen suddenly went blank I have been out of the loop on cellphone evolution since 2006.

I'd like to go with the Sprint Instinct but I've heard that it's not great, no WiFi and the screen is a bit smaller.

My husband has the Blackberry but it's the most expensive option.

I really like the user ease of the iPhone but I'm wondering if it's overpriced and overhyped.

I'd appreciate anyone's feedback on any of these three phone options.

I'm also wondering how many parents have given these kinds of phones to their children.

Of the three, I'd go with an iPhone. Now, depends on your usage too. While the Storm's clicking screen is cool, if you text with two hands, you no long will be able to! With two hands, the screen remains depressed as you try to type (its fine with one hand). The iPhone apps are actually awesome. I play with my friends iPhone a lot and his apps are actually useful! (lowest gas near you, recipe books, games, and other neat things). I have a Blackberry pearl, and I like it, but I'd really like the iPhone. Only thing is I'm on T-mobile, so I would have to switch to AT&T.

Dunno much about the instinct, but looking at the site, I still would prefer the iPhone. It's well hyped, but it actually lives up to much of it.

Probably come down to a cost-benefit issue for you anyways! ;) I will say that my mother has the blackberry pearl as well and is now adept at e-mailing/texting which she never did before!

if you have long fingernails... forget the iphone.. my daughter has one and loves it... I have longer fingernails and it requires finger touch... so I have a MS based tilt ... I dont have to use the stylus because I use my naisl..

I really like the iphone......
PS I made my daughter cover the cost of the iphone, over 100.00 .. so she paid for most of it, and treats it better..

I started that sub forum thread and we gave our son a Blackberry Storm. He loves it (of course...what kid wouldn't?) and he just said to me this afternoon, "all the kids at school with i Phones say the Storm is junk!" LOL! We don't have experience with i Phones other than a few friends but one thing made me get the Storm...Verizon coverage and Verizon gave us the-buy one Storm for $199, and get a second free!

I wish Alltel would hurry up and switch over to Verizon. I want to get a Verizon phone. Not sure what kind I would get, though.

So, why don't the academies issue cell phones (only the coolest and technologically advanced phones of course), to all cadets? This way when away from the computer you could always access to email or emergency alerts?

It could work... :thumb:

Has anyone used the Blackberry 8350i? If so, how did you like it, etc.?

I love my iPhone! I always resisted the PDA and iPod because I couldn't stand all of the gadgets in my purse. I was doubtful when my husband bought me one a year ago. Now I'm completely hooked! I've got to learn to trust him when it comes to gadgets.
