Is it a bad look to cancel attending CVW after registering?

I registered right away for the mid October slot and due to some family and school commitments it is starting to seem like it's going to be difficult and expensive. I would be flying from the west coast and have to take a red eye then I would have no where to go until I could arrive. I don't want to look flaky either but these issues came up after registering and in hindsight I should have waited a day to check on everything.

The logistics of where to hang out could be figured out for sure. I would say that if you haven't been to the campus, it is worth it to attend.

You can politely reach out and see if there is an alternate date that would work out better. Life happens, admission folks know that.

No. It will not reflect poorly on you. People get busy and schedules have to slide sometimes.

Going or not going to a CVW has nothing to do with your application or review of same.

Also, if you cancel, you open up a slot for someone else to attend. Not that they deserve it more, but if you realize it's not the right choice, cancelling makes sense.

The reason to do a CVW is to give you another data point in terms of deciding if USNA is right for you. Whether YOU should do one depends on you. How much do you know about USNA? Have you visited? Did you do NASS? Did you visit another SA (which would at least give you some idea of life at a SA)? Are you sure you want to attend or still making up your mind?

Only you can weigh the above vs. the cost and inconvenience of the trip. You could also ask to reschedule for a WE that is more convenient / cheaper for you.

USNA does not care whether you attend or not. They make CVW available to help candidates. Many people have to cancel for various reasons. If you intend to cancel, I suggest doing so as soon as you know you can't attend so as to free up the space for someone else.
