With NAVY Football's overall record currently at 7-1 , they are Bowling again.....are they contract obligated to any certain Bowl at this time , such as the Military Bowl played at Annapolis on Dec. 27 ?

They usually do not do the Military Bowl in Annapolis. They’ll get an invite somewhere once the season ends, and match-ups that will optimize attendance and gate revenue for both teams and the bowl organization will be considered. One of my favorites in years past was the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, always one of my favorite cities to visit. The Alumni Assn will offer packages with options for hotel, tickets, tailgater, welcome reception, swag bag, etc.

Per Navy Football:
Navy will not know which Bowl game it will go to until Bowl announcements are made 12/8/19.
The AAC has agreements with seven bowl games and secondary agreements with two others. The highest ranked champion from the AAC, Mountain West, Conference USA, Sun Belt and MAC, as voted by the College Football Playoff Committee, will play in the Cotton Bowl.

AAC Bowl Tie-Ins
DATE Bowl Location Opponent
12/20 Frisco Bowl , Frisco Texas , USA/MAC
12/21 Auto Nation Bowl, Orlando, Sun Belt
12/21 Boca Raton Bowl, Boca Raton, USA/MAC
12/23 Gasparilla Bowl, Tampa , Conference USA
12/24 Hawai'i Bowl , Honolulu , BYU/Mountain West
12/27 Military Bowl , Annapolis , Notre Dame/ACC
1/2 Birmingham Bowl , Birmingham, SEC

Secondary
12/26 Independence Bowl, Shreveport , SEC/ACC or Notre Dame
12/31 Liberty Bowl, Memphis , Big 12/SEC

sadly any "bowl eligible" team with the requisite 6-6 record can go to a bowl, heck now they are even taking teams with only 5 wins.

As long as sponsors keep paying for teams to play in games which can’t even half fill the stadium, obscure bowl games will continue. I tune in to some of these just to get a dose of football if I have nothing else going on.

I'm looking forward to the Lotrimin Athlete's Foot Bowl!
That would be only slightly more silly than the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl. Its sad that the majority of these games are completely meaningless exhibitions and as a sportswriter noted several years ago "only the parents of the players and some of the alumni actually care".

I talk trash about the minor bowl games but this will be the last time for most parents to see Little Darling play football.

Plus, it's a chance for people to visit Orlando, San Diego, Bahamas, Birmingham, etc.

Just joking about Birmingham.

If the criteria is that the sporting event has to have "meaning" you could probably drop just about every post-season event in every sport. Heck, you could drop most of the in-season events also (why is Rutgers still playing football?)

In my mind, all of these minor bowls, post-season tournaments, and special events are money makers for someone. The cities, hotels, airlines, theme parks, restaurants, etc get a nice revenue bump. There is advertising revenue for the sponsor and network. The schools get some revenue via a guaranteed paycheck (although I have seen some discussion that it actually costs them overall), free advertisement and exposure, and pleases their alumni base (especially those with deep pockets) who will send future donations.

These extra events will continue to proliferate until there is no more money to be made. Its capitalism at its finest. God bless America!

I would put that as, "Why is Rutgers still playing football in the Big 10?"

I grew up in the shadow of Rutgers Stadium and enjoyed many great seasons throughout the '70s and '80s. Once they started to go 'big time' I lost interest, even though I'm still a season ticket holder. (I give away lots of tickets, that is if people even want them). They will never be a 'big time' team and I'm not sure how many decades it will take for them to figure that out.

I grew up a few miles from the Banks of the Old Raritan and had one of my kids go there. That said, I keep my car doors locked when I'm in that area. . . not to prevent it being stolen but to prevent someone from putting Rutgers Football tickets in it when I'm not looking.

I just checked the USNA Alumni Assn website - no Bowl packages showing yet. That’s an easy way if $$ to gather tix, hotel rez at designated Navy hotel, party, tailgate, swag bag, etc. in various combos.

For those in and around Annapolis, the Military Bowl on Dec. 27 will feature UNC vs. Temple.

If you're going to be at P'cola Beach, Sidelines is a good place to go for wings and lots of TVs.
I imagine that there are a few on Gulf Breeze as well.
