January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

Website is offline this morning for "scheduled maintenance." Getting a "Network Error (gateway_error)". I'll be curious to see if there is any change in status when the site goes live again.

ITS NOT JANUARY 25...ITS NOT JANUARY 25...I keep repeating in my head so I won't get crazy checking all day, night and tomorrow (which is MLK remember so I doubt anyone will be working at CC). All kidding aside, it would be amazing to find out sooner than 25Jan-31Jan....DS needs something to relight his fire -- senioritis is taking over he and his friends like the plague! It's pretty darn amusing to watch all these overachievers get "lazy".

Site appears to be back up...logged in as normal, went right to the dreaded "You've been choosen for an Interview bla..bla.. bla.." so much for hoping for a little excitment:rolleyes:

thats pretty much how i feel everytime i check on the ststus site. however, i realized that if i smashed the computer, how would i get on facebook and waste endless hours until 25Jan (or whenever the gov't is inclined to notify).

example of negative affect of technology? for sure.

here's to hoping the next 10-15 days pass quickly and everyone gets good news!

Wow, your first post and you really didn't use capitalization rules??? I've been telling everyone you are a bright kid and now this....(hangs head in shame)

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Back to the waiting game and trying to stay busy.

I get the urge to check the website every day (okay, many times per day!); but I find myself coming to this thread instead. It is so reassuring to know I am not the only mom pulling my hair out! Enjoy the day!

I understand everyone here is patiently waiting for their online status to be changed, but when I received news on my AROTC scholarship (from the first board) I didn't find out from the notification page. My ROO called me weeks before the online system was updated. I would be waiting for a phone call, not a change in the online system.

wish it was so...

ufgator... we've been told by various posters that the ROOs have been told not to contact any scholarship winners prior to annoucement on this board. Don't know if there was a problem with the October board or just a change in policy. Wish it were true that they could tell us now, but it just isn't so this time. Congrats on your scholarship!

The change in status on the Dodmerb page does not neccesarily mean that the AROTC Scholarship has been awarded. Several applicant this year have been sent to Dodmerb and received their physicals prior to the board meeting. Since you have also applied to the Service academy's your medical status has been updated to show the AROTC as well. Unfortunatly you will have to wait along with the rest of the candidates for word from the Jan. Board which should start being updated around Jan. 25th or so.

Well, if the calculations are correct, a week from now we will all be hearing some news...some good, some not so good (March isn't that much more of a wait....:yllol:). I saw someone posted instead of constantly checking DodMERB or CC status pages they come here to read and hang out...I completely agree!!! Just knowing I'm not the only crazy momma out here does help a little, plus we can head off the misinformation that travels thru on occasion. Well, off to check facebook and a few other things in the real world. If anyone follows the national story about the man being tried for the third time for his wife's death by bath tub drowning, jury selection begins today, this community is about 30 minutes away, so our news here will be saturated by what is allowed for public knowledge....hoping our judicial system proves entertaining = distraction.

A lot of good threads have been started lately, what happens after you receive the ROTC scholarship and what should a parent do if their child wants to consider leaving ROTC during the first year. We are all so focused on "winning" the prize - maybe some time spent talking with our kids on these topics would be a good investment of our time. DS reads the forum too, and we have had many good conversations start out of them.

On another note, just received my work schedule for next week -- of course I'm working Tuesday (day likely for results to start showing up on CC status site). It will help the day go faster, but I really want to be there when DS finds out:shake: Seeing his face will be one of those great parenting moments(whenever it happen, Mar/Apr. would be ok too). Also, if after a few days pass he isn't seeing the blessed "Check your DodMERB status" update I want to be there for that too.

Anyhow, take care - stay sane and another 24 hours down!

. . . I really want to be there when DS finds out:shake:

I have to attend a conference in Florida next week (actually several back-to-back ones). Ugh!!! SO I'VE DECIDED TO TAKE MY DS WITH ME!!

FloridaDad may know better, but I certainly hope they have Internet in Florida!!

Sounds like a great plan!! I'm sure your DS is just heart broken to spend a week in the south, potentially at the beach, while awaiting his good news!! Glad you'll be able to be around when he finds out. I will be telling my boss I'm leaving promptly @ 2:30 (end of my shift) DS doesn't get home until 3 so it should all work out for us too.

Yes, we have internet in FL. We are coming into the 21st Century slowly but surely!!!:rofl:

I'm missing something here. Do you believe you know the exact day the posting will take place? Or are you leaving every day at 2:30 until you hear regarding the award?

seems to me from gathering info here that there are several possibilities upcoming over the next five months:

- applicant is awarded scholarship(s) around Jan. 28
- applicant is not, meaning application is automatically rolled over to the Feb. 28 Board for reconsideration
...........- applicant is or is not notified around Mar. 20
- assuming no award Mar. 20, then, sometime in early April a Dear John notice is posted on the Status website, and a Dear John letter arrives at applicant's home. Then:

1) in late April and May, awardees from the Feb. 28 Board of 4-year scholarships to multiple colleges will choose and notify their first choice Battalion of their scholarship acceptance, freeing up slots at AROTC schools offering a scholarship but not chosen by applicant

2) Around this same time, awardees choosing NROTC/AFROTC over AROTC will notify AROTC, freeing up 4-Year scholarships at some schools

3) Around July 1, after 30 June I-Day at the Naval Academy, R-Day at West Point, and BCT Report Day at Colorado Springs, awardees (or the Academy) will notify AROTC/NROTC/AFROTC that they own that body now and any ROTC scholarships awarded and accepted are now forfeited. This presumably opens up slots which are awarded around July 10-15.

4) I assume there is a Report day also at West Point and Colorado Springs, repeating the process in 3) above.

Man, this thing gets complicated.

Those not receiving a 4 year scholarship through the Fort Knox Cadet Command will then be in competition for 3 year scholarships at some Battalions. What I'm not clear on is whether these AROTC 3 year campus-issued scholarships are awarded prior to the awardee arriving as a freshman, or if they are awarded during the freshman year while applicant is participating as a non-scholarship ROTC Battalion member.
