January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

My status changed! :shake:

The only school I listed was Virginia Tech...I was pretty certain (and still am) about where I want to go.

Good luck everybody, and hang in there!

Ohio2015parent- so sorry to hear of your loss.

I checked all morning like a crazy mad parent and it finally changed many hours later so it's definitely a rolling process.

Good news is sure to come rolling in for so many more~ keep the faith! We've all waited this long!

Hmm...this is odd. I called my the AROTC department at my top (and only) choice school, and was told that they were almost certain they had not sent out their offers yet. I didn't list any other schools, so it's odd that they wouldn't know what's going on. Then again, they appear to be in the dark just as much as we are these days.

DS status changed! Hooray! Sent an e-mail to #1 school to try to find out if that school will be a choice.

28 ACT
4 yr. Varsity Football
3 yr. Varsity Tract (Captain 1)
Sea Cadets 4 years
LPO Sea Cadets
Hundreds of hours of Community Service
NHS
4 years robotics (Captain all 4)
INTEL Science Fair Finalist
Lifeguard

Good luck everyone! These are all great kids and, in the end, I have no doubt that they will get to where they want to go.

Not all schools have been notified yet. I was told this morning that my DS's #1 school had not yet been notified, so I wasn't able to find out whether my DS got the nod from CC. Hang tight.

I was told that the number of awards is 90% lower (yes, 90%!!) than last year's January board (idea being that the remaining folks would find out after March board). Whether these remaining 90% will be picked up, however, depends entirely on the budget.

Status change in Alabama

My son had a status change this afternoon. We are in Alabama and only listed schools in this state.

Oh geez. Looks like the CC website appears to have crashed. Hmmmmm . . . maybe I shouldn't have refreshed my screen so often!!

I think we crashed the server, folks. Ugh.

Now you've gone and done it....you broke the toy.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and thoughts. But today is about great things happening for some amazing kids, so back to the fact PATENTESQ broke our toy.....:yllol:

Last year there were 5 boards so I would imagine the awards for one board would have been lower then this year since there are only 3 boards. Considering they had originally expected around 1000 offers from this board, a 90% reduction would be leave only around 100. Given that the numbers from a single board were lower last year and they are saying a 90% reduction from last years board, the number would probably be around 70 or so. Boy that seems low considering they only have 400 accepted from the first board.

Even if all offers are accepted that would only leave a total of around 470 scholarships so far with only one board left.

If these numbers are correct there are going to be either a large number of offers on the March board or they will be drastically cutting back from thier projected numbers.

So far 10 people have posted a status chage on this board so far. Hope to see more posts soon.

Good luck everyone.

Yep, gateway error message..we killed CC by overloading requests. Too many times checking!

Hope they don't have to use the "contractors" responsible for DodMERB's computers....its been down for weeks.

sorry moderators if that's pushing the line.......

Your guess is as good as mine, but I would guess they are just being cautious right now. We'll see.

Too late

I came to late to the web sites today :frown:
When I go to check my DS status I get;

"Network Error (gateway_error)

An error occurred attempting to communicate with an HTTP or SOCKS gateway.
The gateway may be temporarily unavailable, or there could be a network problem.

For assistance, contact your network support team."

....So close to finding out :bang:

I can't imagine your agony! At least I was able to access and find out that DS's status hadn't changed. I quickly interpreted this as a "ding" and have had a few hours to come to terms with that fact. Ugh!

BTW, anyone got the phone number for the "network support team"? (just kidding)

DoDMERB has been down since January 18th. I think their five week anniversary of working feverishly on the problem was yesterday.

Hopefully they will fix the error message tonight instead of just waiting until the letters come out. This wait isnt getting any easier.
