This does not make any sense to me... whatsoever. Here's my brief version of what happened.

I was diagnosed with a minor "processing disorder" which has really never affected my school work and I've never received accommodations for anything EVER. I forgot I even had it until this whole process started.

DoDMERB, in a remedial, asked me to submit my transcript as well as a counselor statement describing my personalized education plan. I do not have one so the counselor wrote that I had never received accommodations of any kind.

Also, I took the SAT with regular time and am in 94th percentile of the nation.

Seeing as I am DQ'd, it must be the case that anyone with a processing disorder is immediately disqualified? But, if that's the case, then why did I even have to submit any AMI in the first place.

Very frustrated.

Here's the exact message: R259.10 --- We have determined that you do not meet the DoD medical standards for the following reason(s): D231.90 - Academic skills disorders.

One must be DQ'ed before one can receive a waiver. Some conditions require a DQ. Period. That doesn't mean the process is over.
If my condition required a DQ, then why did they request the AMI? Just for the waiver? ahh

Give that man a kewpee doll. There is no guarantee and you don't say if they have processed the AMI yet, but it sounds like a waiver might still be possible.

Yes, they processed the AMI and then DQ'd me. Everything provided through the AMI showed the disorder has no effect on my life whatsoever.

At the briefs USAFA told us to keep going regardless of DODMERB and that if you are competitive USAFA will seek out a waiver for you. So don't worry about it too much.

Perhaps the AMI didn’t contain whatever info they were looking for to qualify you. Perhaps they need the information as part of your file, if a waiver is initiated.

Do you know what your medical records state as far as a diagnosis? No need to answer. Have you looked it up against DODMERB standards? Some are contingent upon length of time, or last treatment date, etc.

You say your disorder ‘never really affected my schoolwork’, which to me says it ‘sort of did’. Something had to be going on to seek whatever treatment or inquiry that you did. Perhaps this is the disqualifying thing. I have no idea. But your post is perplexing.

It’s not over yet!!

Thanks for the response. I was never put on any medication. I was depressed in eighth grade and looked for anything aside from my own shortcomings to blame it on. So, as so many others are, I was tested for a learning disability. I discovered this disorder. I did not need accomodations and I was feeling much more confident and myself again by the start of 9th grade.

I was never even "treated" for it in any way. This should be a warning to all parents who aimlessly get their children tested just because their kids' grades drop due to adolescence. Anyway, it has never, even sort of, affected my school work. I am being honest when I say I forgot about it for the last 3 years. There wasn't even anything about this on my medical records. I just decided to complete the DoDMETS initial survey completely honestly. So frustrating.

I am confident I will get a waiver for this, but the DQ could add months to the stressful waiting with no contact from anyone at USNA...

I know you are disappointed, but this is the process. Best to find other things to focus on and occupy your mind. You are not the only candidate who will be waiting for months with no word. That’s most candidates (waiting for word).

Being honest in your DoDMERTS questionnaire was the right thing to do. Answering the questions asked honestly. It’s required, and then you work through each remaining step.

Good luck to you. This is only a little bump in your life journey. Don’t let it consume you. Enjoy your senior year!

@justdoit19 Thanks for the reassuring post. I keep thinking to myself: "This is all a test to see how badly I want this" and it sure seems that way. Luckily, I want it really really badly.
