Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development

Fifty LEAD Prep Offers will appear online tomorrow morning. There may be more (unsure at this point). I should point out that USAFA had almost 250 LEAD applications this year.

Good luck, all...

Thanks!

Do you have any more info on LEAD direct appointments?

Thanks!

Do you have any more info on LEAD direct appointments?

Around 15, I believe. USAFA still hopes to be able to offer some direct entry appointments, but just won't know if that's even possible for a few more weeks.

So, should I expect to see anything on my portal tomorrow if I am eligible for direct entry?

Or would an airman get a prep appt that was then upgraded to a direct appt once the USAFA determined how many slots were available?

Yes, it is possible that some airmen offered Prep may be upgraded to direct entry, once USAFA determines how many (if any) slots may be available.

When will those 15 go out?

The 15 are those that are too old for Prep School and hence can't be offered Prep School. They will be considered for direct entry in late April/early May if USAFA has any slots available for LEAD at that time.

Well I guess tomorrow when I wake up I'll know what to do with the rest of my life. No big deal.

for those too old for PSchool, could a PSchool nominee be upgraded to Direct Appointment and push our possible appointment out? Or are there considerations to help both the PSchooler and the old folks have their appointments?

:))))

ALRIGHT EVERYBODY,

I do apologize for not posting in a while... Been extremely busy as I'm sure we all have. But today my CC called me into his office and what not. The first shirt/superintendent accompanied me as well (thought I was in trouble for sure). Turns out that I received an appointment to the Prep School!!!! I'm extremely excited..... I know this is going to spark a barrage of questions so just PM me so I can keep everything organized and respond back to you in a timely manner!!! I hope all of you receive the good news as well!

Cadet Pay & Stuff

At the P School, or just the P, you'll get exactly what you would get if you were still enlisted. Once you become a cadet on the hill, you'll pay back all the money they charge you for your initial issue of stuff, and then you will receive normal cadet pay. Cadet pay was 800 bucks a month a few years ago. I think the Hap class got $115 a month until they paid back initial issue.

As far as Active/Reserve status, you're still active as a preppie, but your status will change as a cadet. The Academy cadets are technically in inactive reserve status. This means that the time as a cadet won't count toward O-1E or Time in Service. If you are in the Goldilocks zone where you hit four years and one day while waiting to become a cadet you will be the rare USAFA grad with O-1E pay.

The date I initially enlisted and the date the Air Force considers my pay date are different because they offset the years I was at the Academy. They just made up a date that made the time work

Congrats to those who made it in to the P school. To those going direct entry, brush up on algebra, chemistry, and physics. The first year coming straight from the operational Air Force can be tough academically.

-Good Luck
