Hello,

I have been in a religious leadership organization (BBYO) for a little over a year now. In that time, I've held the chapter secretary position, and two separate chapter vice president positions. However, I've come across a fork in the road. For my 6 months as chapter secretary, I was awarded secretary of the term. That being said, I am debating running for secretary on a regional level (SoCal) because I believe I'm qualified. On the contrary, I understand that the academies are interested in high-level leadership positions and that the secretary position may not fall under the high-level category (President, VP). With that, my other option would be to run for president of my local chapter. I am currently one of the only qualified members in my chapter to do so. To summarize, is there a wiser option of the two? To clarify, I cannot do both. I wish I could, however my time left in the organization does not permit. I understand that this may be confusing, and I'd be glad to clarify. Thanks in advance.

Side note, does anyone on this site know about BBYO? I've been wondering if it's impacted someone's chances of admission at all.

Leading the local group is probably better from the admissions perspective but the real asset would depend on what you DO as President. Be active, do new things, show that you can LEAD as opposed to the routine things that every club president does.

I am familiar with BBYO and my opinion is that it is similar in many ways to the religious affiliated groups that many
of my candidates have had leadership involvement in.
