Hello, I am back at it again asking questions as I begin looking into applying. So I feel like my grades are pretty solid for applying, maybe a few B's in classes I should've gotten A's in, but anyway I have a few questions regarding leadership, a place that I am worried may hurt my application.
So something I have on my application so far is that I attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, which was a weekend-long leadership camp. I was nominated by my guidance counselor, and was one of only 4 in my entire school to be nominated.
Next, I work as a counselor at a day camp. Not sure if this will count as a valid leadership position (IMO it is, but not sure what the Academy would think). During the summer, I also am part of a two man sailing team. I am the "skipper" of my boat, so could that be counted as a leadership role?
So next up is something that I started planning with one of my friends, and will most likely present to my school's activities council this September. That is to create a "Movember" Club in my school where we would host events throughout November to raise money for the Movember Foundation. (My friends and I have a weird obsession with growing facial hair, so we wanted to do something with that) We are thinking about having T-Shirt sales, Bake sales, and maybe a fundraiser concert if we can get enough support.
In terms of sports, I am going to be a junior, and only Seniors will be captains, but I am a member of varsity golf, swim, and lacrosse. I am hoping to be captain in at least one, but I cannot guarantee anything. I am also planning on running for school board representative for school next year, which would be a nice addition if I am fortunate to be elected. There are a few other clubs I am a member of that I may become an officer for, but will not know until around this time next year. I am also talking to my guidance counselor about potentially attending Boy's State, and I plan on applying for NASS.
But besides this, is there anything else I should pursue? I understand that you should not participate in things for the sole reason of beefing up my resume. I enjoy doing things related to sports, especially lacrosse and sailing, so maybe volunteering at a lacrosse tournament or a sailing regatta? Again, I am pretty new to looking into applying, so I may be very naive. Thanks.
