I apologize if this info is already on this forum somewhere. What percentage of Officers.from army ROTC are commissioned as active duty ? What is the likelihood of being denied active duty if that is your preference? I believe Air Force is all active duty, correct? DS is not sure which branch he would like to be in but knows for sure he wants active duty. He is currently waiting to hear back from both for a scholarship but plans to enroll in ROTC regardless.
Thanks!

About half of all AROTC officers commission active duty. Many choose to serve in the Reserves or Guard after graduation. I believe last year, 78% of those who requested active duty received it.

Keep in mind, though, that has very little to do with whether or not an individual cadet will receive active duty. Most of the factors that determine active vs reserves are 100% in the cadet's control - PT, grades, involvement. If your son wants AD, and does the things required to get it, he'll be fine.

Thanks. That's encouraging. As for grades, will they take his major into account. He's planning to major in engineering and I believe it's typical for engineering majors to have lower GPAs than some other majors.

There is usually a small bump for stem majors, but not enough to overcome a bad gpa. If he can't be north of 3.0 majoring in engineering, he may have some re-thinking to do.

Disagree...had 10 engineers graduate from our program last year. Many didn't have 3.0 and still got AD.

Keep in mind we are talking about a Cadet who will access in 4 years. The criteria and ratios change every year.

This is true. The only constant is change.

+1

The addition of 4 points to the OML for an Engineering major can compensate a bit for a lower GPA, a 3.0 in engineering should be fine as long as they stay strong in other areas.

Also agree that things can change a lot from year to year, this next year will be different then last when it comes to how the OML is put together. New Command, new rules, seems to happen now about every 2 years it seems.

I disavow any comment of mine that contradicts Clarkson.

I would echo those who say that things change year to year. One thing is for certain a student/cadet's prospects in or out of the military can a only be helped by a higher GPA.
