LOA question

I received my LOA about a week ago; It is conditional upon nomination and receipt of supplemental documentation aka my transcript "of any college courses taken." I am supposed to hear back from my senators/congressman within the next two weeks, but my grades are not posted until five weeks at the earliest. My question is this: will I be auto-appointed so to speak as soon as I receive a nomination or will they wait to see how my fall semester went?

If the "Supplemental Documents" the LOA mentions, includes this fall semester's final grades, then that's what it means. The air force doesn't give partial appointments. If the LOA simply said "You need a nomination", then that's what you need. If it said: "You need a nomination and pass your DODMRB physical", then that's what it means. Yours says basically: It is conditional upon nomination and receipt of supplemental documentation aka my transcript "of any college courses taken." Then THAT is what it means. Do those things, you receive an appointment. Don't meet those things, and you don't receive an appointment. Best of luck to you. Basically, it sounds like you've got it, as long as you get a nomination and you don't crap the bed on any of your classes. Good luck. Mike....

LOA

CC or ALO Steve - I'm sure that this has been asked and answered numerous times on other posts. My kid has an LOA and is triple Q'd. Does a nom count against the MOC's slate in this circumstance?

JMC, as heavily as I've researched exactly what it means to have an LOA, it seems in all cases it doesn't count against the MOC's slate (and even if it did it would make most sense to nominate the LOA candidate since the MOC would be guaranteed his nominee would get appointed).

Believe me as soon as I got the letter I read almost every thread there was about them/the nominations involved with an LOA candidate.

Christcorp,

Are you an ALO or cadet? Also the supplemental documentation simply states provide a transcript for all college courses taken. I assume I don't even need to be in college if I already know I'm going to start over at the Academy.

Okay...this is a "hmmm" topic.

If a student receives an "LOA" and then meets all the requirements for admission and is nominated by their MoC...yes, they could "count" toward the MoC's "number of appointees" at the SA.

Why?

Because they're not an "alternate" selectee; they are "assigned."

Now...can the SA "change" that and say "okay...here's the thing...MoC XX has this superb nominee and they rack/stack the highest; therefore, we're picking them and tagging them as MoC's appointee. And then also give an appointment to the LOA nominee and NOT count them toward the MoC's number?

Yes, they could.

Confused yet?
(there are many more permutations that can play out in this scenario, BTW)

It's strictly a "how we do it today..." thing. Don't read into it, don't try to guess/second guess/etc., it; you won't know the system as the SA folks do.

Just smile and be happy! LOA + all qual's + Nom = APPT!!! :yay:

Oh, and until "CC" answers...he's an ALO!

What Steve said!!!

On the clarification of your LOA; if it said a Nomination and your transcript, then that's all that matters. I mentioned your fall semester grades, because you mentioned the grades not being posted for 5 weeks.

Lets assume this isn't your 1st semester of college. Then you technically could probably submit a transcript of to-date college classes taken: transcript. If this is your 1st semester, I have to assume that the academy knows that you are in college, or they wouldn't be asking for college transcripts. Therefore, they are wanting your transcript as soon as your 1st semester classes are posted.

As always, if you need more direct clarification, simply call your academy counselor. S/He will give you the exact clarification that you are looking for. Best of luck. Mike...

Mike,

Thanks for easing my nerves. For the record, I'm in my second year of college so I guess I'll ask someone working at the Academy admissions/my ALO what they would think if I didn't take another semester here. There's a 99% chance I get the appointment, so when I do it will make attending college wasteful at best since I already have quite a handful of credits.

Definitely get hold of the academy counselor. They may simply take you existing transcripts, your nomination, call it a day and get you your appointment. Sounds good. Let us know how it turns out. Best of luck Blackops. Mike....

Well, if you get that transcript in, you should be getting the appointment. Congrats to you. Mike...
