LOA Received!!

On retaking the SAT in October . . . not needed for USNA, your MOCs will likely have made their decisions by the time your scores come out. . . the only benefit I see is if you want higher scores for civilian colleges / other SAs.
I second this.

Your LOA is a Conditional Offer of Appointment. That means if you satisfy the condition(s) listed, you are guaranteed an appointment to the class.
If what you need is the nomination, as soon as you get that (let's hope you do), then you will receive your Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment.

But there have been cases of LOA, but the candidate was not even considered for a nom due to SAT/ACT score. You are taking a chance that there will be 15 others that have higher scores than you (if that’s how your moc filters out candidates). I wouldn’t take that chance.

A small contrarian view. October SAT is on 10/5. Results come 2 weeks later I think. Many MOCs will still have their process underway (check the schedule for your three sources). Using my MOC as an example, he has a ranking scale with points for different categories. SAT/ACT scores is one of those categories. A 1390 would not max out your score in that category according to his system.

That's why I indicated it depends on the competitiveness of the area, the MOC (for example, the date by which they make their decisions, whether they accept updates to the original package and when) -- and how fast SAT scores are released.

When a candidate is already at 1390, there's not a lot of room for improvement (IOW, will a 1420 make the difference in an o/w stellar package?). If the OP is in a competitive area and the MOC accepts updates to the application well into October, it probably makes sense to retake. If the area is not super competitive, it's probably not going to make a difference. I suppose at this point the money is paid so it's just a matter of spending a Saturday in SAT land. :)

LOA is great. Now, focus on satisfying the requirements within it to get the actual prize, a fully qualified offer of appointment. It isn't over until that part is done. Trust me, I know as my kid still got a TWE even though he had an LOA because he couldn't secure a nom.

As a complete aside, I wish the SAs could jettison the nom system in favor of agreeing to appoint X number of applicants from each state each year, based on population. Save a lot of time, effort and stress for everyone. However, since Congress would have to change the law and, since this is constituent relations at its best (not to mention power), that will never happen.

The current system essentially says that the SAs aren’t capable of selecting the best applicants on their own.

But I digress. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Or, at the very least, only allow competitive slate submission. No Principal, no ranking.

Let the SA make the decision.

I received an email from admissions. The portal is glitched right now, so it still hasn’t updated. My portal currently says “incomplete”, but I was told the status would (hopefully) change soon.
Did it say, "We are pleased to notify you that the Admissions Board has selected you to attend the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 2029, provided the remaining requirements for admission are completed? You should be proud of your outstanding..."

Yes, that’s exactly what I received! My portal recently updated as well to reflect the LOA.
