LOA

DS got email informing him. I am very surprised it seems pretty early. now what?
Did it have conditions? Nom? CFA? DoDMERB qual or waiver? Once conditions are satisfied, then the wait is for an appointment sometime between now and April.

He is at school and only sent part of the email. I assume nomination is a condition DoDMERB IS ALREADY GOOD. IF HE GETS NOM WILL IT BE DONE OR WILL THERE BE A LONG WAIT? SORRY FOR DUMB QUESTIONS

If he is 3Q with nomination, he is done. He will be inducted barring an unforeseen injury etc. between now and then.

Don’t waste time on looking around and getting nervous and worrying.

He should enjoy his senior year with friends and family.

If it is an LOA clearly assuring an offer of appointment will be made (compared to the encouraging but not specific promise of a letter of encouragement), and naming those conditions (some LOAs don’t have conditions and are sent much later in the cycle, more of a “hang on” tone) that have to be met first. As I noted above, he could still wait until April. He has to be fully qualified with a nom of some kind. Fully qualifed = medical/DoDMERB; athletic/CFA; academic/all other grades elements of the application.

WE ARE PLEASED TO NOTIFY YOU THAT THE ADMISSIONS BOARD HAS SELECTED YOU TO ATTEND THE U.S.N.A. WITH THE CLASS OF 2028, PROVIDED THE REMAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION ARE COMPLETED.

TALKS ABOUT THE ACADEMY

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR GUARANTEED OFFER OF APPOINTMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF ALL REMAINING REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION.
HE DOES NOT HAVE NOM YET. EVERYTHING ELSE IS DONE

IS IT AS SIMPLE AS BEING ONE OF THE PEOPLE ON THE SLATE?
Yes. As long as they are on a slate, that qualifies as a nom and meets the requirement. Not sure how competitive your area is, but he should go in well prepared, humble and professional. Some areas can super competitive and others not so much. Don’t leave it to chance.

When in a nom interview he might want to mention he has an LOA and bring a copy of the letter with him. Be sure to let them know he needs to be on a slate to be accepted.

This is not the time for your DS to coast. He still has to do well in those nomination interviews and get a nomination.
When/if that happens, it's all good until I-Day. ;)
