Are LOEs considered rare? I've read comments saying that they are really rare and few 100 people get them. I also heard the opposite, where it isn't rare and everyone who has an application open gets one. I also heard that if you get one, it means you have a high chance of getting into the school and it's just a step down from an LOA. I also heard that that it isn't anything special and it's a wakeup call for you to finish your application. Also, almost everyone I know who applying if they got one, and all of them received them, so I'm guessing it is more on the second answer?

You've obviously "heard a lot" from what you wrote. What you wrote is also a bit confusing.

Have you searched this site for info on LOEs? Your questions have been answered many, many times!

My DD received one last week. My oldest DD that graduated in May never received one but my younger one did. Exact same credentials so not sure what initiates the letter.

Yea I have, but many of the answers are conflicted. One says they're rare, while another says everyone get them. I don't know for sure, so I thought I might ask again!

How would knowing the “answer” to this — whether officially from USMA or unofficially from well-intentioned yet anonymous sources on an online forum — change your goal, intentions or application? If it somehow does, then it’s a good opportunity to recheck why it is you want to attend an SA. As they say, eyes in the boat and control what you can.

Agree. Along with question “what are my chances?” Just keep pushing forward with YOUR story.

Very sorry! I was just very curious what it mean and I guess curiosity killed the cat! I will re-evaluate why I want to attend because I have been asking that question a lot to myself more right now. Thank you for the advice!

No need to apologize. Just
a few people giving you well-intended advice to focus on your own goals and what you control, and not worry about what you can’t control. Attending an SA and serving on AD are huge commitments, so make sure that if you go, you’re all in.

I would interpret it as a positive. They sent it to you to encourage you to complete the application process. USMA is likely using it as a way to give you some feedback about your application. Obviously it is not a guarantee that you will get an appointment, and I doubt anyone will answer your questions about how many are given out or what it actually signifies, but I think you should allow yourself to feel encouraged. The application is a long and arduous process, and things like this help to keep you going to the finish line.
