My son was suggesting a watch for high school graduation but he was talking Tag Heuer since he thinks they are cool. I like the idea of a casio g shock or something like that is based on atomic time. And it won't be a problem if it gets lost or banged up. I do like the Ferrari idea maybe has a present to myself though
Definitely don't get him a Tag. Invicta and Citizen have some good pieces for cheap. Everybody thinks luminox is overpriced crap. My buddy had a $500 luminox, I had a $80 invicta. Guess what broke first? The expensive luminox. G shock > Luminox everyday.
The Casio gets my 'Chief Mate seal of approval'.. They're pretty durable and have a 10 year battery life. I changed out the resin band for a velcro band to make it easier to put on and take off.. The price is right too..Every day wear:
Casio Men's W735H-1AVCF Super Illuminator Watch With Black Resin Band (It has a vibration alarm - which is nice to have) $25
My wife got my Luminox for me maybe 10 years ago. It was less than $300. I've never had a problem with it except changing the strap every few years ($20 on Amazon) and I'm very active outside and hard on things. It's the best watch I've ever owned. Not to start an argument here but to say "it's overpriced junk" would not be accurate from my experience. Folks should buy what they like within their budget.
FWIW, my Navy Luminox watch is fantastic and very durable. Folks should check out their offerings. You can order them online or at a Cabelas.
We went with this as birthday gifts. Our son loves both. Thank you @THParent for the suggestions.Every day wear:
Casio Men's W735H-1AVCF Super Illuminator Watch With Black Resin Band (It has a vibration alarm - which is nice to have)
$25
Dressy (within regs for uniform wear):
Invicta Men's 8926OB Pro Diver Stainless Steel Automatic Watch with Link Bracelet (Old school, nautical)
$60
@beyond that looks pretty nice.. [bonus points for having it on the 24 hour time setting] I might put that on a gift list for my son.. When you say 'reasonably priced' what are we talking? ballpark..In line with @deepdraft1 I’m sailing CM as well. I was a timex guy for a long time, but bumped up to a Garmin Instinct a year ago and could never go back. If your kid is in to sports the activity tracking is the bomb and it has a lot of other useful features. Reasonably priced, and I’ve tried hard to break it, but it just keeps going.
If you notice I’ve actually got local time and UTC on the home page, plus barometer.@beyond that looks pretty nice.. [bonus points for having it on the 24 hour time setting] I might put that on a gift list for my son.. When you say 'reasonably priced' what are we talking? ballpark..
There are 2 watches DH trusts. The 1st is the Casio G-Shock. His is 30+yrs old. Its tough and lasted through TBS@ Quantico, and multiple deployments. He replaced the watchband a couple of times and batteries as needed.I would like to buy my son a good watch to have when he leaves. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as far as brand and/or styles.

It's a special watch that has since been given to our DS. He is taking very good care of it.
The 2nd active style watch is the Suunto Core. It has proven to be a comparable substitute to the G-Shock.

My son wears a Garmin of some sort. It does GPS and range finding and other things I can't remember. Before the Marines surrendered to the virus and suspended training, he was an exercise control and observation officer at 29 Palms. I can see where the watch for the most part helps him stay at minimum safe distance along with actually knowing where he is on the range. In line with @deepdraft1 I’m sailing CM as well.
