Loosing Hope 😔

My advice would be to focus on the end goal. I got in as a re-applicant, but I hadn’t and commissioned through OCS, I can honestly say that everything would have still worked out just fine. I’ve met plenty of great officers who commissioned through OCS, and they seem to be doing pretty well.

I was a 90-day wonder and it worked out for me. I got to fly on the government's dime and learned a lot of good life lessons along the way.
USNA is not the beat-all end-all of existence as @Devil Doc implies. If what you really want to be is an officer, there are a few different ways to get there.

Well, just remember USNA gets first run at aviation billets, then NROTC, then - if slots are still needed - OCS. You can certainly get aviation through OCS, but it may be less available. There is a current backlog for flight school.

I don’t think it works quite like that. My understanding is roughly a third of each slot goes to every commissioning source. The number of slots made available to midshipmen at USNA and ROTC also ebbs and flows year to year based on Fleet requirements.

It does NOT work like that. NROTC slots are completely separate from the academy, and we get about the same number of slots as them each year. OCS gets their own slots too. They aim to have roughly equal representation from commissioning sources in the community

NROTC vs USNA vs OCS has no effect on how long you wait in Pensacola, everyone will wait some time based on the date they reported to NASC

mine has a presidential. coach told him that due to that he won't find out until march/april.....
Hmmm that’s interesting because most of them figure out earlier because a lot of presidential nom candidates get those nominations before everyone else, hence why they get appointments earlier. But I’m sure some do figure out later

Hi guys, I wanted to come on here and ask if anyone was in the same boat as me. I am currently loosing any hope of getting into USNA as a re applicant. At this point I have accepted my fate and am getting more serious with a back up college nearby and to try OCS. I know that not all appointments have been sent out yet, but I haven't heard anything from my nomination source, who has recently given students their appts, and my status on the portal is still pending. Is there still hope for this, or should I just start to unfortunately move on? I just need some advice at this point 🥲.
My DD (class of 2027) already had a plan B lined up, when she found out she had an appointment to the USNA on April 12th. Hang in there and don't lose hope.

That is exactly one day before I found out I got rejected. Congratulations to your daughter!!! And thank you for the advice. I have a college advisor meeting on Friday to make Plan B a reality.

Yeah same here, my plan B is USCGA, but see her DD got an appointment April 12th! So don't lose hope!!

Heck, if rounds are going downrange and ordnance is falling from the sky, you won't care what school you went to. Heaven forbid that happens.
Been there, but you're correct, the printing on the degree on the wall doesn't come to mind I'm sure.

Editor's note: I didn't get my degrees until I retired from the military.

There’s absolutely hope, most years 150-170 people post on this forum, and we’ve only seen like 80 so far? I would say that’s a good indicator that appointments are certainly not finished. It is a possibility that the population of people using service academy forums compared to people applying to usna in general is skewed this year, but that’s highly unlikely. I have a 1570 SAT, a 3.8 gpa and I’m from a rural area where only two people applied to usna. And no one from my district has heard back 😔. So I would just say, have hope until you can’t, it’s better to think positively and then face disappointment than to never have had hope at all or expect the worst and then actually get it.
Don’t worry! You’ll get in soon!

You can still do Navy air, I suppose. The Marines have planes as well I bet you know. One flew past my house just this morning. A big green helicopter with a white top. You sound all down and long-faced. Stay motivated. Dang, you're close to being a college graduate. Go for it whatever it is.
Devil doc, “auioooooooo!!”

Fair enough. You guys know better with respect to that. I was going by what my kid was sharing from his experience in both NROTC and at the Academy. USNA service selects before NROTC, and the bar seems to be set lower for the ASTB for the Academy versus NROTC. It might be the same actual value (4/5/4) on paper, but everyone in his unit said that if you aren't up near the 7/7/7 range, you are probably not going to get a slot. While at the Academy, it you hit the min, you have a solid shot. Maybe because there are more NROTC students each year than Academy kids??

For OCS, I had heard it was "needs of the Navy" where there could be many slots, or none. If they hit their numbers for retention and new from USNA/NROTC, then OCS takes a hit.

Again, just going by his gouge after seeing both sides.

I'm certainly no authority, so take everything I write with a huge grain of salt.

Definitely no authority either, but DS and his NROTC unit learned their service assignments in late September 2023 - isn't that before the academy mids?
