Marine NROTC Scholarship?

Her online status has not changed at all yet. She got the call from her recruiting officer saying she got the scholarship. We were under the impression the Marines would give her her first choice school. Is this not the case? I don't think the other schools offered Marine ROTC but I could be wrong. Anyone know? Thanks.

You never know what school you will get. It's almost always one of the schools you listed on the app,; but that isn't always so. If the schools had an NROTC unit then they have the Marine Option by definition. Also, ny definition, they had an NROTC unit. Hopefully it will be her first choice school but be prepared for something else.

Ok thank you. Hopefully it is Norwich as that is the ONLY one she will consider. We will wait anxiously!!

Marine Option is very late.

I recently found out from the XO at my recruiting station (he interviewed me) that I had been granted the national scholarship. Unfortunately though, he couldn't tell me which schools or any details because he too had been notified by email from another source. Apparently this year despite fewer offers they have been very late in telling the candidates of their status. I should soon be receiving a packet in the mail with further instructions, but that too might be delayed by quite a bit. - Regardless though, it is probably best to inform the chapters of NROTC at each school you are accepted to so that they can contact you if they receive information and so that they know.

Ty

Thank you so much. I'm from Maryland, 8th district, sO I'm still waiting to hear from us a.

congrats! any chance of posting your basic stats

Hello everyone and congrats on all the scholarship acceptances that are being posted. My DS is currently a high school Junior and we just received his first SAT scores this morning. He is planning on applying for a NROTC scholarship-Marine Option and I am wondering if his grades and test scores are good enough to put him in the running for an acceptance this time next year. Anyone interested in sharing basic scores like GPA and SAT/ACT scores. I am assuming you all have lots of other great achievements on your resumes. Nice job to all of you and good luck for more good news to come to others waiting.:thumb:

Waiting

I'm waiting anxiously for the results. Even if it is a "no", it would still be nice to get some kind of answer. I am contemplating calling my recruiter and asking, but for now I'm just checking the website daily and of course this forum. I did the application and PT test back in November/December, so not as early as some others but still a few months back.

Hopefully more notifications will come out soon- the suspense is killing me!

I will post if I receive any kind of word.

DS SAT:
610 Math
700 CR

ACT: 28 Composite

DS did NOT receive a scholarship but frankly I doubt it was due to SAT/ACT scores (but then one never knows).

will do

I recently recieved a scholarship:
these are some basic stats of mine
GPA 3.45 WGPA 3.8- (LOW I KNOW)
CR 740 MATH 700 Writing 610
scouting, student governmetn, AP distinguished scholar, VArsity AThlete, Pretty fit (but not great), got a 231 on the fitness test, team captain. lots of experience abroad, especially in the middle east. which helped in my interview. (i am the son of a US diplomat)

Thanks for posting your stats. My DS is not likely to break the 700 mark on his SAT. Worrying that high 600's wont be enough. He has some good EC's and is fluent in a second language and has lived abroad as well. Never hurts to fill out the application!

High 600s should be fine. Here's the data for USNA class of 2015:
college board data
Middle 50th percentile*
•Verbal 590-720 •Math 610-730

I would expect NROTC would be similar and perhaps even a little lower for Marine Option.

Thanks Kinnem. I guess I am always leery of the 50th percentile. I have often wondered if anyone is truly "average". I have thought that most of the time the middle is derived from really high scoring students and then lower scoring students who might bring another attractive quality to a class profile. When all mixed together you get the 50th percentile.

My DS has the following stats:
SAT: 640 Math/550 Reading/500 Writing
Did not take the ACT
GPA: 4.0 unweighted; 4.25 weighted
Leadership: Class President 4 years; aviation club president
EC's: Varsity Football 3 years; Varsity Track 4 years
Volunteer Hours: 100+/year
Work Experience: 700+ hours each summer
High School: Small rural high school offering only 1 AP course. He took the most challenging curriculum that was available to him.
He thinks that his independent work experience and follow through on commitments were what put him over the top for the scholarship.

thanks everyone

I appreciate all of you who have been willing to "share" your stats. This info gives me hope that my son may be 'in the ballpark"

Don't call placement!

Congrats to all the selects. Just a quick note: do not contact the placement office until th website is updated with your school assignment. You cannot submit school changes now if you have been selected. You will have to wait until after placement. Recruiters get so excited to let you know you have a scholarship but should have waited until you have actually been placed at the unit. Placement receives 100's of phone calls and emails daily. If you have a few questions you are more than welcome to email me on here and may receive a response back quicker. I am proud of each of you and know your wonderful kids both selects and non selects. Congrats again and look for your school assignment hopefully by Tuesday.
PS: I apologize for spelling and grammer errors as I am typing from my phone.

Hey P-flying17. I applied to the Marine Option NROTC Scholarship but haven't received any news on whether or not I was selected. I saw that you mentioned Tuesday. Is that a day I should expect notification from my online status? I am in Texas.

I just checked my NROTC MO status. It changed from the usual "....at the Marine Corps district for board selection..." to this entire page of my application information. It primarily stated that "...no decision has been made."

1) Has anybody else's status changed?

2) TO SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS: What does your status page state?

Thank you everyone.
