Process of determining my son's math class progression for the next few years.

He is currently a freshman completing PAP Algebra II.

Next year as a 10th grader he is scheduled to take PAP Pre-Cal. As an 11th grader he is scheduled to take AP Calculus AB.

The questions is in his 12th grade year, should he take AP Calculus BC or AP Stats.

He wants to study mechanical or civil engineering.

Thanks for any advice or tips.

All I can tell you is DS took AP Calc BC, validated plebe math, and got A+ for 1st and 2nd semester math grades.

He is Mech Eng but all plebes start with same math curriculum [even history / language majors.]

Hope yours did well in Algebra, it is the true foundation for the advanced classes.

Calc. Stats is really not a big part of engineering. Honestly (and this is from a former engineering professor), algebra and trig are much more important than Calculus in engineering. You want to give your student a head start? Matlab and Python scripting are incredibly useful.

Calc. Calc will help with An academy or ROTC application whereas stats won't. Stats can be useful but if he has Calc wrapped up before college he can take it as an elective there.
