If the candidate has scoliosis (documented) but it is less than 30 degree, would a medical waiver be required?

Only DODMERB can answer that, but based on the information in the DODMERB medical standards, if there have been no medical issues with the spine in the last 24 months, it does not prevent the individual from following a physically active avocation in civilian life, and it is not expected to interfere with the proper wearing of military uniform, then it is likely it would not cause a DQ. This information is listed on pages 32 and 33 of the DODMERB standards that Capt MJ posted.

If within the limits, it most likely won't be disqualified, but follow up examination will most likely be asked.

My ds reported scoliosis to DODMERB. They ordered x-rays for him because we didn't have any nor did he have any doctor's records regarding his diagnosis. It was very straight forward and easy to determine based on the angle that he does not have scoliosis and he was not DQ'd. You could get them done beforehand to save time but it was an easy process (and 20 min x-ray appt) for my ds.
Let DODMERB pay for them. They're probably going to ask for follow up X-Rays anyway. My DD was followed for a few years with annual X-Rays and DODMERB still wanted their own for reference.

That link goes to a blank webpage.
It’s probably being updated. It was there 2 days ago. I’ve attached a screenshot of the DoD Instruction for military accession medical standards. It’s available from other sources. Most recent version was 2022.

I just wanted to update that my DD's medical waiver was granted. She got notice of the medical disqualification December 23rd. CGA automaticaly requested a waiver. We had to provide additional medical information and February 6th, the waiver was granted. I think that made our experience a six week process. It did help to proactively send AMI before requested. Thanks for the help!

Did CGA ever notify you that they requested a waiver for your DD? I’ve had an LOA since September and was notified of a DQ around Mid January. Admissions never contacted me about requesting a waiver on my behalf.

My son has had an LOA since December. On the tenth of January DoDMERB requested AMIs for my son on the 30th he was dq'd. He received an email the same day notifying him a waiver had been requested. We were in the process of talking to USCGA and a CIV rep so maybe the sped up the process.

I just found the email that indicated they had requested a waiver. Seems to me that I had to contact them first. I had also sent DODMERB additional civilian tests, despite the technician stating they’ve received it, it doesn’t show up in my portal. Is this normal?

I'm not sure about the portal. The kid takes care of that by himself. From what I have gleaned from the portals "normal" is not easy to define in relation to DoDMERB. Always a good idea to reach out to your recruiter or to DoDMET/DoDMERB folks. Definitely a time when you want to be proactive.

DoDMERB is still recovering from their near total outage from September 2022-November 2022. I received a disqualification in December and it didn’t update in my portal till late January. Just give it some time and they’ll get it updated in the portal.

CGA did notify us they requested a waiver. If you go into the DOD website, it will show you if a waiver has been requested.

Does "Under Waiver Review" indicate that a waiver has been requested or does that mean the Waiver Authorities have your files available?

From my DS experience, "Under Waiver Review" does not indicate whether or not a waiver has been requested. The Waiver Authorities have your files available. There could be a waiver requested, there could not be.

My portal said “under waiver review” during my waiver investigation. Not sure about other people’s experiences however.
