Oh dear.
I hope he has informed his chain of command and thrown himself on their mercy. There are not unlimited numbers of the SECNAV noms which are reserved for enlisted personnel, which he qualifies for with the enlisted status he has at NAPS. Those noms are used for those who are unsuccessful in gaining a nom from other sources. NAPSters are expected to start the next cycle’s nom applications to all eligible nom sources before they report to NAPS.
I hope they have a stern one-way communication with him about paying attention to detail, understanding his responsibilities, etc., and then working the magic with Admissions to make it happen.
Keep us posted. This is his to navigate.
As a learning point for upcoming NAPSters, be sure you read and heed all guidance provided in your class booklet, especially with regard to noms. This is the current one, which will be updated soon for the next class. See page 8. The requirement to apply for noms is underscored.
I'm surprised there was not some sort of "direction from above" to apply for noms. I know that students in the Foundation program are told point blank to apply to all noms for which they are eligible. In the CAPT Wallace days (and I assume still true today), he followed up with every candidate to ensure it was done.
Second, don't believe everything parents post.
Third, 2022 NAPS INDOC ended (classes began) Aug. 17. At least one Ohio Senator didn't require nom packages to be submitted until Sep. 15. That's an entire month.
Third, it's a little late now to worry about this as there's nothing anyone could do.
Fourth, he will PROBABLY be ok but CAPT MJ is absolutely correct. DS needs to take ownership of his own life and career. As an officer, he will be expected to keep track of important dates for him and inform his enlisted about important dates for them. No one is going to be informing him. Just saying . . .
