NASS acceptance and denies

I spoke to an admissions officer during my DS's CVW. A CVW invite is generated based upon the submission of an application to a STEM camp or NASS application. You are not judged by the contents of the application.
Hmmmm??? Still scratching my head :( Just going to relax (as Fencermother would say). DD has a busy summer with AFSS, AF track camp, and girls state. No need to add stress with trying to "figure it out".

Yep. No point. Just move forward.

I am a official candidate aswell, they do not have the portal open and from what I can tell it will not be open until they start accepting preliminary applications
Just curious as to if you don't get accepted, does that still make you an official candidate?

I was invited to CVW before I ever applied to NASS, and never applied to STEM. The only thing I can think I was invited based on my early Fall SAT scores that I had sent to the USNA.

Unfortunately I was not selected for summer seminar; however, a few weeks back I was invited for a CVW. Is the CVW because they are possibly interested in me or more of a pity invite? Or neither of those?

Thanks and good luck to those that got in and to those that are waiting!

I was accepted to NASS, but I am conflicted on whether or not to attend. The price for NASS is $450 with another $500 for tickets. While it seems like a good opportunity, it is finacially difficult to tackle especially since I would miss 3 work days. I can afford it if needed, but $1000 is a lot of money. A friend who attended last year, said NASS was disapoiniting in comparison to SLE. Specifically, he compared NASS to a summer camp for kids(USNA was his first choice but he will be part of USMA class of 2020). Do you guys believe it is worthwhile to go and why?

On the contrary, I spoke to an admissions rep. today at a Service Academy event that took place in the town next to me. I had told him about my denial to NASS and that I had recently attended a CVW back in March. He said in some cases, a person may not be invited to NASS if they had already gone on a CVW, and that a CVW invite was only given if the preliminary application was one that demonstrated a certain level a well-roundness. NASS is more of a recruitment tool than it is a weighted visit. Now that's not meant to downplay the fact that they are looking for candidates to perform to their utmost ability during their NASS session. So if you don't get into NASS your're not out of the running for an appointment. But then again getting into NASS does not make you a certain future Midshipman.

I don't doubt the information that you received. I absolutely agree about the significance of NASS in relations to an eventual appointment. But both NASS and CVW are recruitment tools. Neither have any impact on your appointment. We really have to stop reading into what an acceptance or denial to NASS means or an invitation or non-invitation to CVW means. Let all 2021 applicants focus on what is the most important: the nomination and appointment process.

I agree, but I was just trying to say that while you are there, your're going to be watched constantly

I like your verse btw

As noted above, NASS is a recruiting tool and the majority of those that get appointments annually never went. It sounds like this would be a real finial sacrifice for you along with the money that you miss while not working. $1,000 IS a lot of money and if you're thinking about going because you believe it will boost your resume, and given your thoughtful consideration about the value of money, I'd say bag it.

Work on making yourself a great candidate first and at some juncture down the road in the process when you feel you've done everything possible in your efforts, have positioned yourself well...SAT/ACT scores, academics, sports, EC's and a NOM, they'll be plenty of time and opportunity for a meaningful visit. In the big scheme of things...this is small potatoes.

From official site:

Some scholarships are available based on the financial need of the selectee. You can inquire about scholarships after being selected for the program.

I'd say you have nothing to lose to ask.

I still haven't gotten an email yet - is this a problem on my end or has not every applicant gotten their email yet?

Is it worthwhile to your application? No, not really unless you really, really stand out and on the flipside it could hurt if you on the other end of the spectrum. For most its a non issue. But the value. to me, is you will get to see the academy firsthand. That can really help with your decision down the road.

I heard from admissions officers that everyone was supposed to be notified by April 15th. I would email your BGO or the admissions office and ask them about it.
