What are the chances of getting into NASS without posting scores for the standardized tests? I have great extra-curriculars and academics.

Last question first; yes, many have not been given an appointment after NASS. It is their first look at the candidate and their detailer will give a report but it is largely a recruiting program. It is an awesome and many times life-changing week, however. Our son was accepted last week for NASS Session 1. He also attended CVW last October. Has 3.75 GPA, combined SAT of 1130 (540 R/W and 590 Math). 1 sport athlete but he will have lettered 4 years - team captain this year and hopefully next year. Attending high school with a class size of over 600 students and ranks in the top 20%. Currently taking AP Calculus I, AP History, AP English, Honors Chemistry, Principles of Engineering and Computer Art. For his senior year, plans to enroll in AP Calculus II and AP Physics. Wants to major in engineering and serve his country. We believe his participation in a varsity sport for 3 years and taking challenging courses has resulted the lower GPA and SAT Scores. He plans to take the ACT and retake the SAT soon.
I have seen posts with 4.0+ GPAs and 1300-1400 SATs. With that said, does our son have a legitimate shot at USNA?
How much weight does NASS carry for admission if our son does well (ie. max out on CFA)?
Have candidates been denied admission to USNA/NAPS even though they have been invited to CVW and NASS?

She'll love it! My DD got so tight so quick with her squad mates that she texts them more than most of her school friends, even 8 months later.DD just received email! Second session!!! Over the top excited!
Some people do seem a little aggressively down on NASS. There may be some new people who think that it's a shoe-in and so people want to tamp that down but what I've heard from most people was simply; 1) great experience 2) you do get an application going and a CFA entered and 3) your detailer writes up a little report on you. So, it doesn't mean everything but it doesn't mean nothing.DS accepted to NASS 3 today. And so begins this journey again. And, for what it's worth, I disagree with someone earlier that said NASS attendance has no bearing on a possible later acceptance to USNA. Older son attended NASS in 2013 and received an LOA to USNA early in the Fall with a handwritten note on the letter from the Director of Admissions stating "Good job at NASS", so I have to think that performance at NASS can have some weight. Congrats to all of you who were accepted. Hang in there to those still waiting.
