Interesting...
Obviously the single session for SLE makes it a tougher get than for one of the three sessions of NASS this year. Wondering why someone would get SLE then and not NASS yet, unless they just applied later in the process. Seems that if you've got the resume for SLE, surely it would shine just as brightly for NASS.
Here is what the BGO told our kid from the start, in sum:
Her high school and congressional district both have a long, good history with the USNA...plenty of appointments.
In general, qualified kids from her school DO NOT get into NASS. But they DO get USNA appointments. Reason? NASS is a recruitment tool. They have no need to 'sell' USNA to the kids there at her school. The school and BGO walk one or two through the process of applying yearly and can do so again, successfully...without the NASS pitch.
BUT, very few kids from the school have gone to West Point. Almost none go to USGA or USAFA.
Based on that he guessed our kid would get into USAFA ss and USGA AIM...and have a very decent shot at West Point SLE. Reason? They need to get kids from her school (a specialized boarding school) interested in their SAs...they need to recruit. She would only get NASS IF they happened to have room for another girl after highly recruited areas were tapped.
So far, he is right. She got in USAFA ss. She got in SLE. She has not heard yet from USNA, even though she applied early on.
Is his theory accurate? Who knows, but it made sense and is panning out thus far. (Still, she wants NASS because no matter how much her school knows about it and 'places' kids there...she has a need to really 'feel it' for herself before making any decision to apply for an appointment.)

p.s. Keep praying, Jsilv0722...no rejection means you are still in the running! But, don't let go of the bird in the hand with the USAFAss and those forms due tomorrow!
