National Waiting List?

DS just got the letter that says "You have been found fully qualified and placed on the national waiting list". He has a nomination from his MOC. Does this letter mean that someone else from his slate has already been offered and accepted to WP? The letter also says that most appointments from this list happen between "1 March, 2022 and 1 May, 2022." I've read through all of this and just trying to understand. Also, his CFA overall turned green today so maybe that is what triggered this?
My DD just received same letter today, CFA turned green, and not sure what it means. She has 4 nominations, 2 from the same congresswoman and the other 2 state senators.

My DD just received fully qualified and NWL letter. She has 4 total nominations, 2 from the same congresswoman. Hoping odds are good?
She has at least 4 chances to get an appointment. All will depend on her competition. Fingers crossed for her.

Thank you. We are in Central Missouri so not an extremely competitive area but still plenty of great kiddoes around here. She received no indication of slate rank or if she was a primary in any of the letters for nominations but having 2 from the same congresswoman was a nice feeling. Keeping faith!

Reading through this thread and thought this would be the place to post.

Last week I was 3Q'ed and added to the NWL. I have a Presidential Nomination, as well as a Congressional Nomination (TX37, Lloyd Doggett) for all 3 service academies. I am almost positive that I have the primary nomination to West Point and it is not a slate. (I have received certificates from his office that show I have won his nomination to West Point, it is showing in my portal)

According to an FAQ page posted by West Point https://www.west-point.org/academy/malo-wa/educators/faqs.html it states: "The National Waiting List is comprised of 150 very qualified young men and women, all of whom USMA wants but cannot offer an appointment to at this time. Basically, it means that he/she did not "win their district/senatorial slot," but in all other areas, shine." (This may be outdated, it has dates from 2003)

It appears that the NWL is very much like a normal waitlist. Would there be a reason that I would be placed on the NWL if I (theoretically) have a primary Congressional and a Presidential? Should I have any reason to worry? Does anyone have an experience that can provide insight? Is the answer (like with just about everything) that I need to wait and see?

Thank you in advance.

I do not think you read the thread. A normal wait list is when the class is full and then they have a list of 'also rans' who will be brought in while others decline their offer to Civilian College.
The National Wait List at USMA is the pool of fully qualified candidates--who will be reviewed for building the class. You are not waiting for someone else to decline an appointment...you are waiting for the class to be built. This is a FAR SUPERIOR situation and exactly where you want to be right now.
This is the long game. You are more likely to receive an appointment than not receive one--in a big way--but no one can tell you when...except before 1 May. It is a marathon, not a spring. Keep faith.

Well written. Thanks for the explanation.

My son got the notice that he was moved to the NWL a few weeks ago and thought that meant he was rejected and waiting for a spot to open. Thank goodness I had been reading up on this forum for several weeks so that I could calm him down and explain to him what it really meant to be moved to the NWL!

When our DS was put on the NWL earlier this month, I talked to a friend who used to work at USMA and told me that being on the NWL is very good. I was initially thinking what @michellek39 was thinking. We all felt discouraged until reading more about it (thank you, @MrMe), but now we're just trying not to watch the pot boil.

Hopefully we won't be waiting too much longer.

At this point you all just have to live with the knowledge that you will know by the end of April.
Keep faith. Keep making other plans. It is a slow process. Other appointments witnessed on this forum have nothing to do with your appointment.

Did your son ever receive an appointment? My DD was moved to the NWL weeks ago and now crickets.... Just anxiously waiting.

Yes he received an appointment exactly 1 week after the NWL letter appeared in his portal. Our congressman called him and then two days later, the official acceptance appeared in the portal. Hang in there! The waiting is so stressful!! Good luck!

I received my appointment 11 days after I was put on the NWL, the NWL is NOT a bad thing.
Did you receive two different correspondences from USMA, one about being 3Q'd and another about being on the NWL? I'm 3Q'd but the only correspondence about being on the NWL was from my State Coordinator.

My son thought the same thing! He was so upset thinking he was wait listed until I joined this forum and read it’s a good thing!
He got his appointment this week about a week after being notified he was on the NWL.
