Got off the phone with my district coordinator, was told to expect something in the mail soon..
I had this same notification, and a few days later (yesterday) I got my appointment callHey all, I just got a letter stating that I was qualified Academically, Physically and Medically and that I was further placed on the national waiting list. According to some of my research, it seems that the NWL is just 200 or so CC's that West Point wants but didn't win their principal nomination. I have a few questions regarding the NWL:
1. What exactly is NWL and how will I know whether I am still competitive?
2. I heard early in the process that me getting an LOE will effect my NWL somehow. Is this true, and if so how will it effect my NWL?
3. Does everyone get placed on the NWL?
Thanks all!
If it is there, it is likely that she won the Nom - Portal does not change you just get an Official Correspondence from Admissions (Candidate Qualified).DD portal shows a nomination from our MOC. I am not sure if she won the slate , we are in a very competitive district. Will the portal change from listing her MOC nomination to NWL in a certain time frame ?
I’m sorry if I sound dense , if the nomination in the portal lists our congressional district and not NWL, that means she has the principal nomination ? DD is the youngest and I’ve gone through college applications and law school applications with her elder siblings , but this is all new to me . Our MOC never notified her that she was the principal nominee . Honestly , thank God for this forum ….If it is there, it is likely that she won the Nom - Portal does not change you just get an Official Correspondence from Admissions (Candidate Qualified).
The portal for any applicant will list the nominations they have received. In the section under noms, it will display. This is a completely different display of information vs the correspondence letter that will appear on your homescreen.I’m sorry if I sound dense , if the nomination in the portal lists our congressional district and not NWL, that means she has the principal nomination ? Once your RC has reviewed your file and determined that your application is complete and you are 3Qd, they will (may) post an NWL letter in your file. (Although there is a possibility that not all RCs post the NWL). At any rate, all types of applicants receive the NWL letter - LOA holders, principal nominees, regular nominees, etc.
The letter/title NWL is a bit misleading as it is sent to more than just those who may find themselves someday down the road as someone who is not a slate winner and is looking for an appointment based on the WCS ranking, etc.
It could take some time for the NWL correspondence to show up, it took maybe 1-3 days for me. From my understanding every applicant who’s 3Qed with a nomination is put on the NWL, including principal, and LOA recipients.I’m sorry if I sound dense , if the nomination in the portal lists our congressional district and not NWL, that means she has the principal nomination ? To clarify a fine point:I know that there is a requirement that West Point selects at least 150 candidates from the NWL. Does that mean they can ONLY select 150 people from that pool or does it tend to be closer to a few hundred candidates that get selected?
Does this also apply to USAFA?To clarify a fine point:
- There will be many more than 150 appointed from the NWL
- The 150 are those appointed as Qualified Alternates and are not necessarily the top 150 from the entire NWL. They are the top 150 that were nominated by a district or senatorial MOC, but did not win the slate. Those on the NWL from other nomination sources, that did not have a district/senator MOC nomination will not compete for the QA appointments.
- Additional Appointee is another category and appointments in this category may be made out of Order of Merit. There are usually 200 - 400 AA appointments each year. These candidates will be on the NWL while awaiting appointment, regardless of nomination source.
USC 10 has separate sections for each SA and while similar, they have differences. I have not read the section pertaining to USAFA, so I do not know whether or not the above applies to USAFA.Does this also apply to USAFA?
My understanding is the MOC may indicate that to the nominee. However, many do not submit a Pnom; they just submit a competitive slate. It's all up to your district/senator.How do you know if you have a principal nomination? I have all 3 cong rep. but I don't know if any are Pnom.
Sorry but I was accepted with the class of 2025. I appreciate your willingness to help though!I had this same notification, and a few days later (yesterday) I got my appointment call
Everything is lined up for you, you are 3 Q'd, just give it time and stay positive.
All you can do at this point is what is required of you, and be patient.
Focus on what is known: fully qualified, has a nom, on the waiting list, will be informed likely within the next 90 days or so.DS just got the letter that says "You have been found fully qualified and placed on the national waiting list". He has a nomination from his MOC. Does this letter mean that someone else from his slate has already been offered and accepted to WP? The letter also says that most appointments from this list happen between "1 March, 2022 and 1 May, 2022." I've read through all of this and just trying to understand. Also, his CFA overall turned green today so maybe that is what triggered this?
