Navy Football games

Ironically, we sit directly across from the Mids so we can watch them throughout the game, where many people purposely sit right behind them for the same reason. So as you can see, there really isn't a bad seat. It's not a small stadium, but it isn't huge, either.

Plebes typically have town liberty after the singing of Navy Blue & Gold, provided they don't have duty, in which case they must go directly back to the Yard. If Navy wins, sometimes plebes will be granted an overnight. This varies based on the Supe and Dant, so don't count on it.

I'm starting a rumor that Plebes will be Braced up and doing chow calls on the field after the game!

We will have a plebe there this Fall (so excited!). Do the plebes have any time for interaction with parents on game days? The last home game would be DD’s birthday and we would love to celebrate, even for 5 minutes, with her.
They are in a duty status until after singing Blue and Gold. Normally, there is town liberty after that. Your plebe would have to ensure they don’t have to return to the Yard right away because they have a watch.

Unless she has specific duties, you should be able to grab some time with her after march-on, during the game, and maybe even after. She may not want to venture far from her company, but a meeting during halftime is easily doable.

To be clear, “grab some time” means going near her company area and spending a few minutes.

got it!!! I will take a few minutes for sure....she is my last so this one will be tough!!!

If you're still looking for advice, I'd recommend trying to sit in the midfield section. That way, you can see both sides of the field and get a great view of the action. The lower level is usually more expensive but gives you a closer view, while the upper level is more affordable but offers a wider view of the game. Also, consider looking at ticket deals online or through the Navy athletic department.

thank you! we are now season ticket holders for the football games - we are on the Navy side and have great seats for 2 years in a row. ended up not going to that many games bc of my daughters sport that has a fall season too! but every time we go we love it!

Winning Football.
This coming season I hope the football team wins more games. I asked DS about the games last season. He just walks around the stadium instead of watching and talks to people making new friends.😎

I think the Football team will focus on Winning instead of watching and talking and making new friends …

I made it out from the West Coast to see 5 (6?) games while DD was at Navy. IMO as a west coast parent, the best Navy Game is any home game on a 3day weekend.

FB games pretty much blow most of Saturday on a weekend visit to see your kid. That's just too much time to spend out of a 2day weekend doing something that Mids view as "mandatory fun". Understand, I really REALLY enjoy college football. I'm just saying for Mid parents who have to travel in for a game/visit with the DD/DS have a look at the schedule, and jump on a decent match up on Columbus day or Veteran's day weekends. When we visited, my kid wanted to get out of Annapolis, order off a restaurant menu, sleep in a "real bed", buy stuff at Whole Foods on DD's/DW's credit card, visit a museum or 2 in DC, watch pay-per-view from a bed till she fell asleep..Etc.

(cough)----- Admitting that Columbus Day weekend games at Memorial Stadium while DD was on the Yard were: Houston (2015)...Epic; USAFA (2016)...Epic. USAFA (2018). also...epic. This year the Columbus Day game is at home against East Carolina. Last time I saw the Pirates in Memorial Stadium (2019?). They looked like a high school team but they are sitting at #3 in the American League this year, 3 spots above Navy at #6. Should be a decent-2-good game. ABU comes in on Veteran's Day weekend. Meh; but, like I said, it'it'ss about time with the mid. To be honest, DD preferred long weekend visits w/o a football game.

Broken Record time, but for the new folks here:
While she was on The Yard, our DD benefited from visits with DW and I for long weekends in Oct, Nov, and Feb. Families are different, but after the academic year starts try asking your Plebe, 3C-2C if they'd like to set up a couple of nights with you in DC in Oct or Feb; you may be surprised at the response: "Would you like 2-3 days outside of the USNA pressure cooker in relative luxury in DC with Mom or Dad?"...."Yes! Please! " We ended up scheduling out other Va-Kay stuff to support getting out to see DD on The Yard while she was there.

We learned that 1 parent visits were waaaay easier to support than 2 parent visits in terms of $$$, logistics and "stress levels". DW didn't (still doesn't) like traveling alone, but she's a "Big Girl" and adjusted rolling her own carry-on and looking for dents on the rental car at BWI. DD really liked having one parent all to herself for these visits, and they were very rewarding for DW and I. Your kid grows up so fast there, and have so much to say just to their Dad or just to their Mom while walking -n-talking down a street in DC, Balt or Annapolis.

Probably not for every Mid; and of course available $$/ time differ from family to family. That said, if you can swing just a couple of 1 parent visits while your kid is on The Yard, I'd give it a try. USNA was DD's journey, but I like to think that DW and I were kind of like an occasional fleet replenishment ship on the horizon during a long deployment for her.

Great football games, are "golden"; time with your mid at USNA "priceless"

Note: sorry to repeat myself with this stuff, but working out visits to the Yard (including FB games) was a significant thing for DD, and our family. In my judgement, worth repeating....I guess that's obvious huh?.

USAFA was always a great game BTW.

We do the same too but for new parents, just make sure your Mid is available and doesn't have duty or other plans (club sports, debate or things that take them away from the yard).

Thanks for the essay... Write a book?

We're moving (renting) to Edgewater this coming September before the first game. This will solve the logistics issues.

We did receive our first "don't visit due to exams" last weekend. At least living outside the gate, DS can always have a home cooked meal.

Writing to persuade folks who have to fly in ($$). This worked out really well for our family specifically DD, but you don't appear to have the same issue.

Book?
Long winded------short attention span
