New Navy Regs…Will this apply at USNA?

Anyone care to offer their opinion? I think it’s fantastic.

Good and obvious change. Better late than never. Reminds me of how at USNA they used to tell us it was unprofessional to keep your cell phone in your front pocket. First, that just makes no sense at all, complete non sequitur. And my reaction was always, if we can’t use our pockets why do our uniforms have them?

If the navy had wanted you to have a cell phone... just joking, I had an issued cell phone back when.

I think the bucket cover looks better on the officer and chief with the prescribed uniform.

I remember reading about back blow when ponytails were authorized. Really??? The Father of the Navy had a ponytail.

Change happens, otherwise Old Ironsides would still be a ship of the line.

I guess this means my hard-nosed prior enlisted energy casually judging dirtbag officers with their hands in their pockets will need to be directed elsewhere. ;)

I do agree that generally, certain uniforms look a little off when there's a bunch of stuff in the pockets and that walking with hands in pockets looks less professional. But when just standing around? Sure, we have bigger things to worry about.

100% spot on! Front pockets with a small set of keys or compact wallet is one thing. Bulging to the brim, on the other hand, comes off sloppy and slovenly. And that's true whether it's a military uniform or civilian garb.

Standing with one's hands in their pockets can seem casual. Walking with one's hands in their pockets can seem slouchy.

Seems like a thin line when it comes to personal bearing. Lean a bit one way and you're a slob, a bit the other way and you're a gentleman/woman.

Aside: As an old-school college professor, my pet peeves are backward ballcaps and hoods pulled over when indoors. (Yes, I realize there are some out there rolling their eyes and mumbling, "Boomer." 🙄)

Do the females have the option to wear the current cover or the bucket? Or are they going back to the bucket?

Having worn bucket and seen the men’s covers on women, IMHO, bucket looks better. The downside is that it is — or at least was — a LOT more expensive. In my day more than 3 times the cost of a man’s cover. 😱

Nothing new for hands in the pocket here in front of the U.S. Navy Memorial Museum in DC. Although, I think hands in pockets looks sloppy and detracts from the overall military appearance in dress uniforms like service dress blue, choker whites, and tropical whites. In civilian clothes I hardly ever walk around with hands in my pockets. Perhaps a carryover from tongue lashings taken long ago.

^ Guilty.

Seriously, my bigger concern is that someone in the Pentagon spent more than a second thinking about this frivolous BS ! What problem are they trying to fix ? We have bigger issue to deal with !

In pockets or out of pockets, that is a beautiful statue.

If fought for this for years but never was allowed to wear false eyelashes before I retired.
I don’t speak for everyone here, but if you have a post retirement portrait of yourself you’d care to share…………I’d like to see it!!

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!

The bucket looks so much better. Also fits better. I know the OG ladies of USNA celebrated yesterday. Those still on active duty played photos last night with them back! Also, the tiara is back too. No one was excited about that except as a joke. And I was a dirtbag that always used my pockets in cammies.

Will they be selling the bucket cover at the NEX? Or will we have to find one on our own. I joined after they got rid of the bucket covers, so I sadly don’t have one :(

I’m also on the lookout for one of those green flight jacket you can sew a bunch of patches on the back of. They stop issuing those about a year before I checked into Pensacola
