Hi everyone,
My DD has received an email noting that our Senator will be submitting a nomination for her.🎉 She has already had an interview with our District Congressional Rep and next weekend is supposed to interview with the other Senator. We have not heard back from the District Congressional Rep yet. She listed USNA as her first choice on all her applications and USAFA as her second choice. Should she still attend the other interview in hopes to secure a USAFA nomination? If she doesn't get a USAFA nomination then she won't get into that academy. Everything is submitted and we are only waiting on DoDMERB and nominations. Thank you in advance for your insight.

She should attend the interview to get another nomination of any sort. If she gets another nomination to USNA she'll have 2-3 (depending on representative) chances to win a slate and get an appointment to USNA.

Keep all options open for as long as possible. You just never know. A nom is only half of the equation. The actual offer of appointment is the other. So assume nothing until either TWE or BFE is in hand.

Not having a nom doesn’t always mean no offer is forthcoming. DD had no nom for USAFA either, but was sent an LOA pending a nom in very late April. USAFA then “found” her a nom. Unusual route, to be sure, but makes the point that all options should be kept open and that nothing is over until it’s over.

I bet your DD was surprised and ecstatic!

DS has appointments to USAFA and USNA with a Presidential Nom, BUT he is still completing all his interviews for all his nomination sources to give the SAs the maximum flexibility to build the class they want.

Thank you all for the great advice! She has so many helping her through this process. Yes! She’s excited and relieved! But yes, another academy appointment option would be great!

Yes, absolutely seek all possible nominations. In most cases senators and reps submit their list of 10 nominations to each academy and one of those candidates will be given an appointment on that MOCs slate (every 5th year, can be 2). There are additional appointments in some cases that can come from outside and be slated to a different source than the MOC, but that is a small number.

Definitely seek all Nominations possible
A Nomination does not guarantee an Appointment. A candidate can get more than one Nomination to the same SA. More Nominations gives a candidate more slates to compete on for an appointment.
DS had a Nomination to USNA and received a TWE.
Celebrate the Nomination, but keep charging forward to the ultimate prize…. an Appointment. That’s the goal.
Leave no options off the table and know you did all you could do in the entire process, then wait.

In some states/districts, the MoC's staffers will coordinate who they are giving noms to which allows them to share the wealth. With a super competitive area like MD (where we are from), this is what took place during my son's runs at trying to get noms.

@Old Navy BGO I have a question for you.

My DS has an LOA from USNA in Spetember and a MOC nomination last week. He has two more interviews scheduled in the next few weeks. Medical exam completed in September just pending DodMerb portal issue. Should he continue to go to his two interviews? His LOA stipulates completion of nomination and Medical.

Thanks.

See post #9 above, quoted here:

Many threads on this Forum about the benefit of having multiple Noms. Bottom line, more Noms = more slates to compete on = better chance of Appointment. Right now isn't the time to take the foot off the gas pedal and coast.
