Nomination Question

I had a quick interaction with the service academy liaison after being told I earned my nomination. She asked if I have any official correspondence. I said I have a 3Q Letter and Presidential Nomination. She said awesome, great to hear, but then she asked if I had an LOA or LOE. I said no and after that she asked me to send her all of my documents because "It will make my job easier".

Is there a reason she is asking this or am I simply looking too far into this/overthinking?

From past experience the Service Academy Liaison's are there to help and glad to do so. By having the interaction and submitting your documents does help in opening your file with them. Best of Luck.

Last year DS' first MOC nom did not get communicated to the USMA. He had to follow up with MOC office to resolve snafu.

Don't read too much into it - as stated the liasons are there for a reason; just do as requested.

Was unaware one had to accept a Presidential Nomination, but if you didn't interview with any MOC's offices, why wouldn't you? If you did I could see if you wanted to pick a nom from a slate which you're the most prominent candidate. Why wouldn't you provide the person putting your file together any info requested? She's on your side.

She was referring to accepting the congressional nomination.

I always thought those candidates eligible for a Presidential Nomination just took that nom & didn't bother with the others. I thought that there were appointment slots reserved for that nom. Am I wrong?

She probably wanted to take credit for ontothefray22 getting an appointment.
Regardless - if a Representative of Congress asks you to use her nomination - I hope that you turned her down as graciously as possible.
That's really awkward.

There are between 600 and 800 Presidential nominations handed out based on the candidates parents’ military service. However, only 100 Presidential appointments can be made. No one can or should count on a Presidential nomination being their only nomination. Pursue all nominations to the end.

I think you may be over thinking this. I would think she is just asking you to accept her nomination to ensure that you really want to do this.

The academy does not have any process that requires a candidate to "accept" a nomination.

Maybe I should clear things up. She asked me to send all documents from West Point to her. I included POTUS Nom and 3Q Letter, the SLE letters weren't included. In this email, I accepted the nomination as well because she asked me to let her know whether or not I would accept it.

There are 100 appointment slots reserved as I recall. Nevertheless, hundreds apply and receive a presidential nom... so most will not get an appointment. One should ALWAYS apply for every nom they're eligible for.

As you will read on various forums, having multiple noms allows the SA flexibility in where to eventually slate you, if they decide to offer you an appointment. Depending on the method used by the elected nominator’s office, let’s say it’s the method where they let the Academy pick the ranking, you may not be competitive for an appointment on one list, but you could be on top of the other.

The only things you can control here are putting in your best applications, lining up Plan B, continue doing well wherever you are, and taking time to enjoy the here and now.

Agree. Have LOA from WP, passed CFA at SLE and qualified for DODME, just waiting for nomination results- had last interview yesterday.
