Checked the application status on my DS profile and under Nomination Status, it states "Received".

1) Does this mean that USAFA received it or
2) Does this mean that my DS received the NOM from the MOC?

DS was also informed by the coach that he is a "blue-chip" athlete and while we were happy to hear that, we are more impressed that he appears to have the whole package (grades, leadership, extracuricular activities) and now hopefully a nomination to gain acceptance to the Academy.

Historically, it means that he has a nom from a qualifying source.

Under the received it should list the nomination source.

It does

I don't why I did not pick up on it before. I just saw "received" and thought the MOC info was there prior. This is what happens when I don't have enough coffee :shake:

Thanks for the quick replies. He's one step closer!

What is the appointment status?

He is still listed as a Candidate but all the paperwork is in. We are just playing the "waiting game" right now. USAFA is flying him out to the Academy later this month on an "official" recruiting visit and to practice with the team.

Everyone is playing that game. The official visit should be the closer. If he likes the USAFA and lets them know he wants to go and they like him, that status should change quickly.

Agreed. That's the approach we are taking. As much as I'd like to see him go there and as much as he is interested in going there, the visit will most likely be the deciding point and it needs to be HIS decision. Fortunately, we have plan B, C and D confirmed and are still waiting on plan E (if need be!)

That is great! Sometimes too many choices confuses a kid. My DD wanted USAFA bad so we didn't even have a plan B...it was wrapped up early. What sport does he play?

It was a little different for my DS. He wanted USAFA right up until the end of his junior year in HS. He then began to have second thoughts. It was kind of wierd because he wants Aerospace Engineering and although his interest in the Academy fell off, his interest in Aerospace Engineering actually increased substantially. He was just not too sure of he was ready for a military lifestyle. It was after speaking to the coach in mid September, that his interest in the Academy rose again. He's been doing his research and gathering as much info as possible and as he has stated to me on several occasions - "it's the best option for me". He's very driven (like all the cadets I read about here) and his concern about going to STATE U is that he won't be challenged enough and will have too much free time on his hands. Go figure! Still, it's nice to know that he has solid backup plans with several D1 schools just in case the Academy visit "goes south"!

He's runs cross country and track.

What sport is this for? Just curious because I am going out there later this month for a visit as well
