My son is enjoying his interactions with his fellow Falcon Scholars. The evening and late night discussions are particularly enjoyed. I personally have enjoyed hearing him and his classmates studying together. I am very proud of these young adults!I really wish I was able to attend my DS’s Falcon Scholarship presentation on Zoom with him but I’m back in my classroom teaching in person again. It’s great to be back with my students but I have a bit of guilt that I couldn’t be there for my own child on such a special day. That evening my DS told me all about the awesome presentation, the speakers, the significance of each individual scholarship, and his excitement just to be a part of it all. He’s settling into the routine, getting to know his fellow NWP classmates, studying EVERYTHING, running several times a day, doing his set workouts, and making the most of his whole online NWP experience. Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Falcon Foundation Scholars. We are all so proud of YOU!
I'd say yes indeed. After Saturday's classes were done, our DS took a "quick" nap (set his phone for 30 mins). He woke up 3 hours later. Oh those late night study / talk sessions will come calling. Ours is really enjoying them as well...especially the down-time games. My son is enjoying his interactions with his fellow Falcon Scholars. Are your kiddos tired? lol
My DD seems to be tired, but not exhausted. I do like hearing them at night, studying, but also laughing! Makes my heart happy! My son is enjoying his interactions with his fellow Falcon Scholars. Hi Navy UMO...my daughter was a self prep to NWP in 2017. Basically they take scholarship students from all of the academies. With the USAFA falcon scholars making up over half the class. But they do get scholars from the AOG of both USMA & USNA. The rest of the class is made up of self prep students. The program is one semester long and the students are expected to go back home and attend a local college or university for the second semester. This year with covid they are online instead of in person on the mountain in California. I think what they are missing would be the amazing Durbecks in person! Mr. Durbeck runs all the physical fitness and cfa prep and testing. Since my daughter was not the recipient of an academy scholarship she was able/encouraged to apply to all 5 academies. During their semester on the mountain they often have old grad prepsters come in and talk to the group. In addition all of the academies have representatives that come and give out the scholarships to their various academies. Then they take time to talk to the self prep students about their academy...sort of a sales pitch. My daughter only applied to one academy while a senior in high school but applied to all 5 while at NWP. From her time on the mountain she became aware of the other opportunities, at the end of the day she decided a different academy was a better fit for her. She made friends to last a lifetime and says her time on the mountain was an amazing gift. If ever you have any questions about your DS please do not hesitate to contact me by PM here on the forums.Wow, I am 1986 USNA grad and until this forum had never heard (or met) a NWP graduate. I looked at their website and it seems very interesting a great option. Does anyone have stats on what their acceptance rate is? Do people typically try to apply to the Academies and then utilize NWP if they don't get in the first time? How does it compare with NAPS? I knew lots of my classmates that were NAPSTERs and they all did quite well at USNA. My DS is a junior and contemplating USNA strongly but he has a way to go with grades, leadership etc so I am keeping options open and any gouge would be appreciated.
Yes, you got that right. They are shorter than midget short-timers at this point.Well the falcon class of 2020 is down to 1 day and a wake up. (I said that correctly right?)
Well said! Sums up what we felt about the program too! My DS came into this experience with a positive attitude and is leaving as a proud NW Prepsters with many awesome new friends in his contact list. He will be excited to hear great news hopefully in late February and we hope to meet many of you in Colorado Springs in late June. Congrats to all of the NW Prepsters!!!NWP Class of 2020:
Congratulations on completing the first ever virtual/online class for a program such as this! This would have been a 50 times greater experience had you attended in person together. You've seen a great example of making lemonade when handed a basketful of lemons. The Durbecks were able to maintain the integrity of the program while working in a completely new paradigm. You are so lucky to have been part of this process whether you were sponsored by an SA or a free agent. For the sponsored prepsters, you know what you need to attack next, so keep up the academics as you tackle the spring semester, dive into your subjects and deliver solid grades. May the friendships you made and camaraderie you share bond you together in this journey. Hopefully by mid to late February, you'll be reporting a SA appointment! For the Falcons among you, I hope DS is with you all in June in Colorado Springs! Good luck to all, best wishes for Christmas and the upcoming holidays! Congratulations on a job well done!
