IF I'm reading the regimental calendar correctly, there's a week-long early November Fall Break and then late Tue - Sun leave for Thanksgiving. (a) Am I reading this correctly and (b) would love suggestions for places within driving distance for potential Thanksgiving gathering which would keep my DS/plebe closer to Kings Point (within a few hours rather than 20+ hours away if we stick around home)

If you are thinking of having your plebe stay, if they still have host families/mentor families, your plebe can possibly go to them. There will also be a large number of plebes from the local surrounding area which, if your plebe is friendly with, can get an invite to spend the day with them. If you are planning on heading up, There are some places to go if you do not want to stay in the city and catch the parade etc. But, it will potentially be cold/weather issues for outside activities But, your plebe may just want to stay in a real bed, in a hotel room, and crash. We brought ours home since we knew that years 2 and 3 would have him at sea. There were some long weekends during his tenure there that we flew to a city and he flew as well and we would met him someplace--Cleveland, St. louis, etc. for a change of pace.

Your plebe will have lots of offers from classmates for Thanksgiving. I would allow him to go home with one of them and save family time for the longer break between first and second trimesters. Both my 2013 and 2021 kids went to friends' houses, had a great time, tightened bonds with their classmates, and got to experience parts of the northeast they would not otherwise have had the opportunity to see.

Being from the West Coast, I only ever went home for Christmas and summer. I did spend a lot of time at classmate's homes during other holidays.

Good suggestions by everyone but if you still desire to do a nearby family type thing I suggest you consider one of the well known resorts in the Poconos. Most can be reached with a 2 to 3 hour drive. One that comes to mind is Woodloch Resort (see https://www.woodloch.com/). It is just short of a three hour 120 mile drive.
