NROTC MO OCS "Bulldog" Course

The official USMC OCS Facebook page also sends out messages.

I got this yesterday:

"Good morning, candidates have sent letters home with their correct mailing address and platoon assignment, you should be receiving those letters soon."

The parents of my DS' college roommate got their letter on 5 June. It was postmarked on 2 June. They arrived at OCS on 27 May.

If they are actually required to send addresses, we should be getting ours in the next couple of days.

If you could post the mailing address I'd appreciate it--we have not heard a word from DS since 5/27 when we received a text that he had arrived at the airport.

The address would be something like this:

Candidate Smith, John. J.
X Platoon, Y Company
2189 Elrod Ave.
Officer Candidate School
Quantico, VA 22134-5033

I am confident if you excluded the platoon and company line a letter would still make its way to the candidate.

OCS Bulldog/PLC Seniors is Lima Company.

Sent my son letters addressed to Lima. Never got a letter with platoon number.

Thanks! Okay, so it's clear we are officially clueless...my son just finished jr. year of college on ROTC scholarship and reported to Quantico on 5/27 for 'OCS'; what is that program called --PLC? Jr.? Srs.?
The ironic thing is husband is retired Marine (he went the SA route, not ROTC). I guess because we are a military family we never discuss the details and just assume we know what is going on. Any assistance with clueing us in would be welcome.

It's called "Bulldog" for ROTC. It's combined with the PLC Senior course. He is there with my son.

This year's family day schedule. I was sent an Event invite via Facebook.

Family Day events provide opportunities for the family and friends of candidates to learn more about Officer Candidates School (OCS) from the Commanding Officer.

Family day will begin with the Commanding Officer's Motivational run, a 3.5 mile run that begins and ends at the entrance to Officer Candidates School. Friends and family are invited to pre-stage themselves along the run route to cheer their loved ones as they run by.

Following the run will be the Family Day Orientation. The orientation is an informal, hour-long presentation led by the OCS Commanding Officer, and provides an overview of officer candidate training and an opportunity to ask questions to the CO. After the Orientation, PLC-Sr Candidates (Lima Company) are granted liberty where they may show their guests around OCS, Marine Corps Base Quantico, or otherwise spend time with their guests in the local area. Candidate liberty will secure per the schedule below. Please allow plenty of time for the candidates to be aboard Brown Field early. The PLC-Jr Candidates (India Company), will have their Completion Ceremony following the Family Day Brief outside on the Parade Deck. Following the Completion Ceremony they are released from OCS.

Guests typically dress casually for Family Day. Restrooms and handicapped parking are available.

Directions and Parking
Parking will be available on Brown Field, OCS following the conclusion of the Commanding Officer's Motivational Run. Signs will be posted aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico to direct guests to OCS, as well as Marines directing traffic and parking. A map of Quantico is also available for your use, located here: http://www.trngcmd.marines.mil/Portals/207/Site Images/OCS/OCS_20Map.jpg

All Lima company families are asked to depart immediately following the family day brief as traffic will be secured during India Company’s Completion Ceremony.

We got the FB invite as well. I was glad to see it all lined up with what we were planning. Well, we found my son's letter caught in some other mail. We can't read the postmark so don't know when we likely received it. As you said, it is Lima Company so our mail should reach him. He sounds hungry and tired, but in good spirits!

Here is the graduation information...

The candidates of Lima Company will graduate on the parade deck at Officer Candidates School (Brown Field) at 0800 on Saturday, 7 July 2017.

The Graduation Parade takes place at Brown Field on the final day of training. The ceremony recognizes candidates who have met the challenge and successfully completed the demanding curriculum. During the parade, the top performing candidates and OCS staff receive awards, the Commanding Officer and Reviewing Officer will each address the guests, and the candidates will conduct a pass-in-review.

The parade takes place on the Parade Deck of OCS and lasts approximately one hour. General audience seating is in the bleachers, VIP seating is in the reviewing stand, and physically-disabled seating is available within the tents or at the front of the bleachers. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early as seating is first come first serve. Brown Field will open for parking at 0500. The event is free and open to the public; however, visitors must present valid ID, vehicle registration and proof of insurance to access the base. Attendees are encouraged to check the weather as the graduation date approaches and dress appropriately, as the ceremony is outside. Unless there is severe weather, the parade will go as scheduled.

At the conclusion of the parade, the candidates will be dismissed to link up with their family and friends.

The uniform for graduation is Woodland MARPAT Utilities or Business Casual for Civilians.

Sent you a PM.

Funny thing is that our son may not even know our actual mailing address. We moved the end of March and he has only been to the new house a couple of times. He may know how to drive here, but not know how to mail here. :)

I think my son had said that at the end of week 3 they should be able to make a phone call. So, at this point, that's right around the corner!

There is nothing like that first phone call!

First phone calls received... the two calls to dad were more of an informal debrief. Mom's was longer and I doubt had the nuances that mine had.

DS is doing well. Did well on the LRC, got 5/5 on night land nav, passed the O-course. Takes the official timed e-course on Monday.

My son goes 2nd phase July 8th. He spoke with some of his friends in first phase. They are all doing good.

My4USMC: 2nd phase brings the joys of oppressive humidity and black flag days! It's what makes Quantico the vacation spot that it is.

Now, as any Marine will tell you, no matter what phase you attend... the phase you attended was the worst. Friends or not, when it comes to braggin' rights no one has it worse than you did. ;)

Of course, Quantico was warmer and more humid in the 80s... melted the shoe polish on boots... :) For those unfamiliar...google shoe polish...black boots...spit shine... back in the Old Corps...etc.

I've been monitoring my son's email account for important items like rent, bills, school stuff. He just got a link for OCS pictures. Finally got to see a mugshot...
