Hi all,
I'm a 17 year old junior who is going to apply for the NROTC MO scholarship. I had a few questions about the general process, and I'm rather confused and lost. Please help with guidance if you can.

1. Do I need to talk to a recruiter? I was under the impression that the recruiter would help you with your application. The recruiter that I have been seeing is pressuring me to join the DEP, saying that joining will increase my chances of gettingthe scholarship, and not joining will look bad on my application. Is there any truth to this? Do I even need the assistance of a recruiter?

2. Should I instead be talking to an OSO for help, or is it feasible to just apply by myself without the involvement of any type of recruiter? ( When I say recruiter, I mean a regular recruiter or OSO, not the coordinator to whom I am assigned).

3. On the official website, I saw that the application opens for my class (2023) in April. I also saw that the due dates of the application for the early board are in October. When should I start my application, and about how much time will it take from start to end? How much time will the scheduling of the PFT and Interview take?

4. When will I be assigned my coordinator, and what role do they play in my application?

Any advice on these matters (and any advice related to the NROTC MO scholarship) would be greatly appreciated. The last few weeks have just been pure stress, trying to figure out what is true and what is not. Thank you all again in advance.

1. A recruiter's normal job is to enlist people, hence the DEP. DEP will NOT improve your application so don't do it. Tell the recruiter you want to speak to an Officer Selection Officer (OSO). Alternatively you can reach out to your regional recruitment brigade command. Those are the folks DS dealt with. You could also just complete the application on your own but an OSO could be helpful.

3. START your application as soon as possible but do not submit it until its the best possible application you can submit. That maximizes your time to complete it, refine essays, get teacher assessments submitted etc. This isn't a "knock it out in one night" process, or even one week. DS took months.

@SVDII - This is not the time to be stressed. When you are feeling stressed, get out and run (It will be time well spent). This community will provide lots of guidance and assistance provided you do your homework first. Use the search function to search this forum on these topics - they have all been covered many times.

Good luck!

1. In no way do you need to join DEP.
2. When I was a district manager in Navy Recruiting, my enlisted recruiters would send me the NROTC interested individuals that needed an Officer interview (I did well over 100 of them).
3. Harder to answer on how long. Get going, grind, polish, and submit when you're confident it's as good as it can be.
4. Not familiar with the coordinator role. In my experience, the applicants performed the necessary applications steps, to include the officer interview, and then submitted. If a coordinator was involved, I was naive to that.

If you have questions about the interview process, feel free to DM. Though I focused on Navy and not MO.

Thank you so much! Just a quick question, what would the OSO or regional recruit brigade command help out with? If you don't mind my asking, in the case of your DS, how did the OSO/Regional recruitment brigade command help him out?

They contacted him to set up interview and PFT. They kept in touch a made sure everything was completed. They didn't do much really, but they could answer questions for someone if they had any.
