NROTC Question

I just submitted the online app for NROTC scholarship. I was a little late to the game starting on this app which is why it is completed so late. However, there was nothing on the online application to suggest the AFA was required for review. Now I am reading forums and websites that say the fitness test and an interview are also both due by the January 31 date. I was wondering if this is true and if so, who I was supposed to contact for either. :(

Just read the website (I'm dumb) and see the place where it mentions both. However, are they still both due on the 31st? In other words, am I screwed?

Maybe. Last year they extended the deadline for interviews to early February, at least in my area. See what you can do to get a coach to administer the AFA on Monday and contact your recruiter to set up an interview. Not much time at all, but you do have a few days to get everything completed.

You should have been given the name of your recruiter when you completed your application. E-mail him and call him. Do it Saturday and do it on Sunday. Get a coach or teacher to do your fitness test on Sunday or Monday or if you have a neighbor who is a veteran, it might be sufficient to meet the requirement. Yes, you are a little late--but the deadline is the deadline for a reason--and you are not that late...

THE DEADLINE IS NOT JAN 31, 2017. IT'S MARCH 9. Jan 31 is the last date for an applicant to submit their online application. March 9 is when all packages need to be sent to the board. For example, the interview and AFA can be completed after Jan 31 but before March 9.

- This is direct from an email my recruiter sent out.
I would still verify the information with your recruiter and finish everything ASAP. You also want to submit earlier so you have a better chance at getting the scholarship.

What ever happens be sure to submit online BEFORE midnight on the 31st. Also save copies of everything you prepared. You may need them for another application. Get your name in the pool now or you will regret it forever.

If you are also a candidate for USNA, there is a possibility that you can substitute your CFA scores and BGO interview for the NROTC application. However, you need to contact your NROTC recruiter to see if they will allow this. Having said this, please be prepared for other posts on this forum insisting that this is impossible. Stay the course, and contact your NROTC recruiter who will decide. Good luck!

If it's any help, I'm in the same boat (haha). I've been contacting my recruiter to arrange an interview - but no response!

Son is having similar issues. He has made multiple calls, sent emails and the issue with his application is still not resolved. He's very frustrated and not sure what to do. He has completed the entire application multiple times but the systems not saving it or it's booting him out before it saves and updates. Today's the last day. He's going to attempt, call and email one last time. If it's meant to be it will happen?

If you are having problems with the web based system, try a different internet browser. That may help.

If you are having difficulty setting up an interview, contact the battalion that is your first choice. They may be able to conduct the interview.

Agree with 5Day. Best bet is a Microsoft browser, as much as I dislike them.

I had my interview at my local Navy recruiting station.
And for the AFA, I had a personal trainer at my gym administer it to me (all my coaches were busy and I just really wanted to submit it). I asked my interviewer if I could take it at the recruiting station and he told me that because I was not covered by their insurance it was too much of a liability and someone else must administer it.

My DD was told by her 'contact' person for NROTC application that she had to do both separately- so she did two different tests for CFA, and had a separate interview for NROTC and BGO. I suppose it depends, as her officer for NROTC was not really sure about using portions of the application for both. Good luck in any event.

Thank you! Mom is NOT a fan of this wait until the last hour business. He will need all the luck, pixie dust and rainbow magic he can get turning in an application in the final hours like that.

Wishing him the best. Don't forget, if a scholarship doesn't come through there are other ways to commission, including enrolling in NROTC as a college programmer.

My DS also had to do two separate CFA's. We could not use the CFA from summer seminar. We didn't know that at the time and he almost missed the deadline! Very late in the process he had his high school gym teachers admister the test and he took the results with him to the scheduled interview at the reqruiters office.
