NROTC Scholarship Awarded

If our students did not receive an email, does that mean they have been passed over for the scholarship? The portal just says a decision has not been made, but I understand that their application does not move from board to board. So, if they did not get notified, then......?
My son is in the same boat. It still said the same thing this afternoon when he checked before practice that it did early this morning ("Your application is at NETC for final processing and selection determination"). Since I don't know for sure whether his application was definitely reviewed for the November board (he may, I just don't happen to know), I am not sure if this means a) he is in the December board and his application hasn't actually been reviewed yet, b) he was boarded but is an alternate... or maybe c) he WAS in the November board but they're swamped with sending out emails and his last name is the end of the alphabet so we need to sit tight a couple more hours. 😂

Note - if they have been "passed over" in this November board and not outright declined/rejected... then actually my understanding learned in this forum is that what happens is that all of these alternates will be reviewed again once all the boards are completed. And they will do their own board for all the alternates, giving as many scholarships for however many slots they had remaining combined from the previous boards. It is not the case - again based on what I have learned - that if your son is an alternate they will be boarded in December. If they're an alternate they won't be reviewed again til more like early spring once all the other boards wrap up. And if this is the case for my son I know that I will be grateful it wasn't an outright rejection because it isn't over til it's over but I am definitely taking up that knitting again lol.

Just as a data point - the email that DS received today had what I counted to be approximately 135 recipients in the cc field, which all appeared to be the scholarship awardees.

No. He has an opportunity to receive a scholarship on each successive board.
Thanks. There is so much conflicting information out there! I guess in the end, until he has been awarded or denied the scholarship, we just wait it out!

Our student's status says "No decision has been made on your application.". So, we will just wait it out. I guess it is not a yes, but not a no : )

Okay so mystery solved. His portal hasn’t changed because his application wasn’t complete until early November so he didn’t make the Nov board. It’s a good data point for others reading that there’s a not insignificant turnaround time needed between getting that laaaast thing in and having a complete and verified package that is ready for a board. In my son’s case, the final piece was sent in 10 calendar days prior to the start of the board. And that makes sense to me. It’s got to be a lot of work to verify everything and pull all of it together. So— til December!

Congrats to everyone who just received scholarships today! It’s really exciting and I love the stories about math class and especially calling moms. ;) And to those still waiting — fingers crossed to see you report good news in coming months!

My DS was Boarded Jan 3-8 2022 for the Class of 2026 and was Notified on April 6, 2022, that he got it. Hang in there. Search the forum and read my other posts directly addressed to parents.

Not sure if people will find this especially relevant or not, but some people love to crunch numbers.

The most recent board resulted in 142 scholarship selectees. Of those, 3 were Nursing Option (which is a lot for one board).

Of the 142 selectees, 71 were Tier 1 majors, 55 were Tier 2 majors, and 16 were Tier 3 majors. If you do the percentages, the Tier 3's were about 11% of the total, which remains below the 15% threshold. It appears there is some room being saved for the big crunch of applications that will come in during the next 3-4 boards.

Plenty of time left, so no need for anyone to panic.

Leaving this here for future parents and applicants... so the mystery was only partially solved it turns out. My son decided to do a bunch of digging and reach out again to his new recruiter because it just wasn't adding up that everything was "complete" but then thrown back for being incomplete for the November board. They figured out that his LOR from his guidance counselor did not have (and never did have) a "wet signature" (a real hand signed signature instead of the signature image). So it kept coming back just as "missing" and she kept resending the same thing back again... but unknown to everyone (except of course the folks who are verifying everything!) it did not comply because it did not have a wet signature. Anyway, the recruiter figured this out and the guidance counselor signed it with a pen and submitted it for the fourth time (or for the first time, depending on your perspective). So now that that is done, his recruiter confirmed today his package is complete and it is going for the December board. So now we'll just join the rest of y'all waiting and praying.

Good luck to everyone!

Oh wow! That’s interesting about the signature. I wonder if it is within their instructions, that it has to be ‘wet’.

It is within the instructions. And while the guidance counselor should have known......so should the recruiter. At any rate, the Great Lakes team should have communicated that better so we will add a signature vetting step to the submittal process.

Once your package has been seen at a board (and not selected), is it possible for the candidate to change/improve their package? For instance, taking the SAT again and improving the score, or re-taking the Fitness Test and improving the score? Or will the original "grade" from the first board hold, so it wouldn't make any difference? Thanks.

Once you get a board score, that stays in the system. If you want to retake SAT scores to improve your acceptance chances at the university, that depends on whether or not they accept updated SAT or ACT scores.

Just so no one gets overly anxious and so no one wears out their index "mouse click" finger, our Boss won't see the recent board results until much later today, and the posting and emailing will go out either mid-day or later tomorrow. Just a pile of things going on and couldn't fit in the brief any earlier.

Thank you! Despite my DD being told in SEPTEMBER that she was an ISR selection, she still hasn't gotten final word. Her name is supposed to be in this round. How did you know I was actively refreshing?! It will be a load off seeing the final notice! Your information has been wonderful, thanks again!
