DS just received a text from the NROTC unit at his #1 listed school (which he didn't get into!) asking if he will accept his scholarship and attend that university! We then checked his DODMERB account and saw new activity from NROTC. Guessing this means he won a scholarship? He has not seen any official email yet and the portal still shows "no decision".

DS heard about his AROTC scholarship from a recruiting officer at one of his assigned schools before he saw it in the portal. Guessing in your case, someone also jumped the gun. No harm, no foul. They wouldn’t have contacted you for any other reason, I’m sure.

Congratulations 🎉!!

Wait. He didn’t get into the school? So will they offer #2?

It might be worthwhile to speak to the unit. If they have any sway with admissions they might get his acceptance changed. Not all schools will do this but some will. But then again, maybe you already had this conversation?

We are still reeling from the fact that he received a scholarship -- haven't gone down the path of talking to the unit quite yet (deciding between AFROTC Type 7 scholarship in-state and the full NROTC scholarship at my alma mater). I'll chat with my DS and the spousal unit once we get the official notification and will give that a shot! Thank you!!

question.. when did your DS submit his application? My DD is still waiting for a decision since October.. :( portal still says no decision has been made. I think the last board date was 4/22.. so still hoping no news is good news. Also, do they call to tell you, or do you usually just some type of notification via email, text etc.

I am not sure! We are waiting to see the official offer and all the requirements before we jump off that bridge. He was making moves forward with a Type 7 AFROTC scholarship when we got the news. It sure is nice to have options!!
Can the detachment sway the admissions office? Worth a shot for a reconsideration!

October....uff da!! He submitted his application on 31 January and was *supposed* to meet one of the March boards. Not sure which board his application was actually reviewed.

The process is not like rolling admissions. Applications are reviewed according to the board’s meeting schedule, but there’s zero promise that decisions will be “first come, first served.” Nowhere in the process is that stated. Like the SA admissions boards, ROTC boards in their own way are trying to “build a class.” This is the military, where “hurry up and wait” is the norm, not the exception.

Agreed. I know there were dates that the board met, but we were not told which date the board would view his application. We worked with the regional Sr. Chief to get his application submitted and then just stalked the NROTC status portal and DoDMERB portal to look for status changes. :)

Also -- notification came in the form of a text from the unit at DS's #1 school. I'm guessing that each unit does it differently. No official email or NROTC status change yet!

is the DoDMERB part of the netfocus portal?
