My son was excepted to the in ROTC scholarship program. What are the dates for the summer training? I saw they were canceled for last summer. Have they been posted for this summer or will they be canceled? Thanks

This was posted in a previous thread. Not sure if anything has shifted:

Thank you. When do the entering first year’s know which one they attend? Thank you for your help. I am new to nrotc
As you mentioned, NSI was cancelled last year. If I remember correctly, there is a set of paperwork that your DS will need to complete and send in to the NROTC office. From there you will be assigned a date. This is a relatively new program. Before NSI, the individual detachments handled all of the indoc. All summer training is still a big "if", hopefully they will make it happen.

Welcome to SAF!

NSI Dates as of right now:
New Student Indoc I: 21 May - 05 June
New Student Indoc II: 18 June - 15 July
New Student Indoc III: 16 July - 13 August
Note: they have changed and they may change again.

Have accepted NROTC scholarship, how/where will we find out about which week and where the NSI will take place? tia

Scroll down for info on NSI. Info current as of 13 April 2021.

Lots of info provided to include some video links for incoming students and parents.

This may be the most important piece of info from that page: For specific questions regarding required paperwork, please contact your NROTC unit.

Your unit will also know which NSI session you've been assigned.

How do we book the travel? Do I just purchase round trip tix for the mid?

NSI is a program requirement and thus the Navy bears the cost of getting to/from for the midn candidate.

Has your prospective midn heard from assigned NROTC unit yet? Has your prospective midn reached out to assigned NROTC unit yet? Recommend doing so. They will assist in navigating the required paperwork and travel arrangements.

If attending a SMC ( like VMI ), my son was told that they will not be sending him to NSI. This was true for last year as well-I believe.
Good luck to your son!

My son received the same information from The Citadel when he talked with his NROTC contact there this week.

Last year was the first year NSI was structured like it (presumably) is....and then it was Cancelled. But can confirm, that prior to cancelling, students filled out paperwork, including this preference for sessions (our sons assignment was not handled through his unit, but rather he was instructed to contact Great Lakes directly). Some units were traveling together I beleive. You can find discussion about all this on threads from last year, if you search for them. But who knows if it will be done the same this year...

Specific to transportation, paperwork included this piece as well. With the option to fly (they book), or drive (ie: if a parent drops off).

But it was all done through Great Lakes with DS’s batillion. Certainly your sons unit is a good source for his questions as well. I’m sure info will soon be forthcoming. Hoping all summer programs run this year!!

Some did last year. Of course if you haven't let your desired unit know your joining there is no chance of going. Other summer training opportunities for the remaining summers exclude college programmers.
