Aside from the monthly stipend, is there a textbook reimbursement for the midshipmen?

There is a textbook stipend of $750 per year or $375 per semester.

Just an added thought about text books- I am sure there are many others NROTC who may have the text books you need, so it may save you money in future semesters to check with them. I know my DD's books were way more than the stipend! And I am almost positive when she is reimbursed she will 'forget' who paid up front for those books!

Per @navypmw Stipend, not reimbursement. You get the same $$$ no matter how much your textbooks cost. To save money, used books, amazon textbook rentals or chegg are almost always less expensive than the university bookstore.

When do they get the stipend? I saw an official looking letter posted on the Facebook NROTC page yesterday that said you won't get it in time for books the first semester? Does anyone know?

I don't recall my son getting it in time for any semester. I only fronted first semester after being awarded a scholarship though, as I recall. Savings from summer jobs and what he set aside from stipend covered up front costs the rest of the way. Made him learn a little about money management.

If I remember correctly, I think my son got his after the semester started -- not in time to really be used to purchase books. Yes, it's a stipend, but in practicality it's like a reimbursement.

He went cheap or digital for any textbooks he actually had to use.

Usually get it anytime from first to third week in Sept, usually after classes have started

New update from NSTC; Effective Fall 2019, the NROTC Program is aligning textbook stipend with tuition payments. This means that textbook stipend will not be paid unless the student is in good standing at the 45-day point in the semester/quarter.
