Mid to high 4000s get Nominations. Up to the high 2,000s of candidate pool eventually get 3Qd. About 1,300 offers go out to fill a class of about 1,250 for R Day. A little over 1k offers have already gone out, with many of the "accepts" to still come in as we get closer to the 1 May deadline. Quite a few of the 3Q pool are being rejected or marked as Qualified Non-Select. Hang in there. Lots will happen right after the 15 April Medical deadline.

The NWL is not a wait list similar to a civilian college wait list. It would more appropriately be called the "National List of Qualified Candidates."

A civilian college wait list is a list of rejected applicants who are potential replacements for spots that do not exist, but may become available at a later date.

The NWL starts out as a list of qualified candidates for spots that do exist and need to be filled. Late in the process it eventually transforms into a traditional wait list, and that point has not yet been reached. To borrow from Army Vet's input: if about 1,300 offers go out to fill a class of 1,250 and only 1,000 have already gone out, there are still 250 - 300 offers expected to go out for spaces that currently exist.

Thank you for this detailed information. It sounds like you might have inside information or very good sources. In any event, I am curious why about another 300 offers are still waiting to go out. Is that because WP is waiting for others to decline? Also, for the unlucky folks put in the 3Q Qualified Non-Select bin, have applicants started receiving notifications? Again, thank you for taking the time so share this information.

I am on WPFF and have been close to WP and other college admissions stuff for about 40 years. Still learning new things, but try of offer advice on this forum when I can.
Many offers still have not gone out because Admissions is waiting for Medicals to get completed (15 April deadline) on candidates with strong profiles and Whole Candidate Scores. Also, the teams and committees that work on all this cannot do it all at once, so that is why you do not see WP or other service academies drop all their offers the same day like at typical colleges. Yes, QNSd candidates are being notified as they work up from the bottom of the 3Q pool. I started seeing QNSd candidates since early February right after the 31 Jan file completion deadline.

It's great to hear from someone with direct knowledge who can speak with specificity and authority. Thank you for offering advice (and for your 40 years of college admissions "stuff"). If you know and are able to say, or even it it's just an educated guess, has WP already extended offers to the top 150 on the NWL?

Most likely they did. Remember, others are still getting 3Qd too as Medicals get completed/resolved and waivers get processed.

Anywhere from 150 to 400. Hang tight! Most appointments are made in April!

This is the time of year where you must keep faith. You simply do not know. The NWL is the absolute best place to be until a TWE or BFE arrive--and you cannot possibly predict which one. If they did not want your kid, he would have a TWE already. One of my cadets did not receive his BFE until around 24 April. That 1 May deadline for notification is really just that. Also, there are high quality candidates with a Nomination who have offers coming in from other schools and service academies--trying to figure out what they want to do. When those kids decline, it opens up another slot. You simply do not know how this is going to work out at this point. Keep Faith.

DrMom is right - when an offered candidate declines, there is a good chance that a new offer will be generated shortly. For example, if a slate winner declines, and admissions decides to offer the spot to the next best qualified candidate on the slate (which is usually the case), that new offer will be generated very quickly.

Also, the high yield and laws governing enrollment mean less room for error. Managing yield at a service academy is much different than a civilian college. Another reason why the NWL is not really a wait list like a civilian college.

My kid was on it in early November and he got a TWE the first week of March. It means you are qualified until they give you the axe or the appointment. Hang tight.

I was placed on the NWL in February and received an offer of appointment roughly three weeks later in March. Best of luck to your DS.

Will I know by May 1 what my situation is though, because West Point is by far my top choice, but college deposits are also due that day, and I do not want to mess up the other options. Also, if you do not get into West Point do you definitely get a letter of rejection, or do they just never tell you and leave you wondering? Thank you for the information, I am fine with waiting, however there are other colleges that need to know by May 1, and need a physical deposit of money as well. Thank you for any help in advance!

Also, how many kids are usually offered appointments to West Point each year? Thank you again!!

You may not be notified by May 1. Proceed with other college plans. If you get an appointment, withdraw acceptance at other school and ask for deposit back. Explain that you are going to a service academy - no guarantee, but many colleges will refund deposit.
