One-Way Ticket

We had a similiar experience, we only got about 4 back, but DS wasn't getting any that we had sent, during the first phone call he asked why we weren't writing, I was crushed, I'm told him I had written everyday...by the next phone call he had gotten ALL the past letters (minus the 4 we got back) in one day! Guess some postal worker took pity and let them thru, because some were bigger and heavier than the ones we got back!
We did send him a care package every week too. USNA was pretty lenient with that, just had to be healthy food, no candy and sugary items.
We also had friends write encouraging notes and memories on note cards at his graduation party and we stuck a few of those in with each letter. He really appreciated those.

Blackhawkmom...I'm laughing and crying at the same time! What a description of your mom fit! I remember what a rough time you boy had for a while...were those cards returned to you when he was ill during the summer? I'm sure glad I'm not the only mom who gets a little excited when I'm worrying about my Navy boys! My oldest can't even go to work right now, and they are talking about evacuation... Does Mom-Worry never end?!?

I wrote to my cadet every day. After reading this thread, I was curious to see if my son, now a cow, had saved the letters and cards. I am only somewhat crushed to learn that he did not. I told him I saved all of his letters--but I didn't have nearly as many to save!

I was doing the same thing, MotM! Blackhawkmom, you are so funny!
I remember we were all pretty much basket cases last summer. Thank goodness we have this forum so we know we're not alone! :thumb:

If only each child could be so blessed..

to have all the love and attention noted by the parents here. Think how wonderful that would be! I am not talking about just service academy kids, I am talking about every child born!

I was talking to a plebe at USMA, a friend of mine, who said as beast progressed(sp?) one of the guys in his squad got a letter everyday from his best friend back home. Each letter had a puzzle piece to a 50 piece puzzle (beast is +/-55 days)! The cadre never found the puzzle pieces, since they were wrapped with the letter and only coming one at a time. I believe the plebe said he constructed the puzzle in his sock drawer, under his socks, and the upperclassmen never found it there either.

The puzzle turned out to be of Washington Hall and the plain full of parading cadets:shake: and on the back, his friend had written a message for him. Now that is cool:thumb:
