Orientation 2013

Has anyone made a decision on where they are eating sunday night for orientation II? I am excited to meet everyone!

That depends, are you going to make it in to Colorado Springs by 5ish? I know they are having a dinner with everybody around 6 or so. But a few of us (me included) dont even land at the airport until 6:30, but I think we are gonna try to get together and eat somewhere later in the night. As to where, I have no clue.

the first day is pretty much a tour of the campus with the candidate... the second day the candidates go around with a cadet and the parents have the option of going on a parents tour or pretty much hang around colorado springs, maybe go sight seeing...

On the orientation info booklet the first day looks very, very long - full of speakers, one after another.

We already did that. I wonder if the only difference is the dinner party. Are these arranged by SAF or AFA?

Having been through orientation last year with our now 4-degree, Day 1 is not really a campus tour. It is mainly a series of briefings for both appointees and parents in a large auditorium. These briefings provide very specific information on BCT and other important aspects of doolie life, and some time is allowed for questions. One information session, on faith-related opportunities, was held in the chapel. There were also some many information tables. A nice lunch was provided. We found it all extremely helpful, interesting, and informative.

The appointee goes off with a cadet late afternoon, follows him/her around for the about the next 24 hours, and parents are on their own. Parents can take an optional 3-hour tour the second afternoon, which we did not do, because we had to collect our son and leave for the airport before the tour would have ended. Plus, we had already taken a tour several years prior.

Many appointees attend orientation on their own, but I am glad we went along.

These pre-orientation dinners are organized strictly by people on the forums - there is no official connection with the Academy.

5 pm for all of the dinners? Cool, it'll be Easter! Are reservations being made?

so Red Robin for dinner during the 13 - 14 orientation, around 5/6?
is anyone staying at the best western acadmey hotel?

and does anybody know if best western offers a shuttle bus from the aiport to the best western academy hotel?
(i tried/am calling, nobody picked up or has picked up for the past couple of hours)

I could always eat twice.

I'll be flying into Denver and probably won't get out to CS till around 1930.
Any cadets staying late?

yes speacial k, my son (cessnafan) and his dad are staying at the BW Academy Hotel April 13th weekend. As for the shuttle between the airport and the hotel, I remember seeing a shuttle back in October when son and I were out there (he did a shadow day with a cadet then). As I remember, it's a service that picks up at the airport and drops off at a couple of hotels in the area. The BW Academy Hotel website indicates the do offer shuttle service to the airport. I'd keep calling just to confirm but I think you're safe.

I called a couple of months back when making reservations, and yes, they do have shuttle. Just call them when you're ready and they'll send the driver. I'm also staying at the Academy Hotel. I will not be able to drive, so could we set a meeting place (Session 1) so those without cars can carpool w/ those whose cars have extra seatbelts?

ryan, craig, and anyone else interested in the late dinner for the 2nd orientation session-hopefully some of you current cadets can maybe stay out later...
i'm thinking 1930 at texas roadhouse? i think its just down the road from the BW hotel. im staying at the hampton by northgate, but we're renting a car so if anyone needs a ride...

I'm thinking that would work. we might have to push it to 8:00 tho cuz i dont land until 6:30, and its a nice ride back to the hotel, and i'll want time to re-group myself together before heading out...
