I accepted my offer of appointment and am now doing the PTR and other requirements, and it says to mail the proof of citizenship and body alteration forms back with our certificate of acceptance for the offer, but I am not sure where to find the certificate of acceptance.

The term "certificate of acceptance" has me scratching my head.
My guess is that it is the Agreement To Serve form. It has a place for your signature and a witness signature.

According to this checklist: https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/PermitToReport/0._Permit_to_Report_Package_Checklist1.pdf
there isn't anything in there that reads "certificate of acceptance".

Maybe someone else can chime in here?
Hey patrick77, I'm also an incoming member for 2024, I didn't have to send that I simply sent in my body alteration form, police record check, and proof of citizenship. Maybe it might refer to a confirmation email you received after accepting your appointment?

I didn't have any further correspondance after that and the department of appointments published they had received it about a week or two later.

That sounds normal, compared to the last three years.

afm7896- where did you go for your police report? As currently because of COVID, many of our governmental offices are closed to walk ups or answering questions. We called the local sheriff's dept and they referred us to the County District Court which is only doing select emergency items. A google search turned up "Criminal record report" aka background check from the state patrol office can be requested online. Is this OK?

I accepted my appointment on March 12 and immediately went to my police station and got the paperwork done that day before things began to shut down. I don’t think that what you mentioned will be ok because this is just a record check. I would stick to doing as the form asks and if the police tell you they’re only doing emergencies, I would mention that you are joining the military and this must be done ASAP. Sorry if I couldn’t help but that’s just my reccomendation.

Try calling your city police station not a county sheriff

That depends on whether you live in a city or not. If you live in a township or village without its own police department then it will be done by the county sheriff’s office. We had to go through the county for my son’s forms.

Also, places where I normally got a notary in the past is closed, so is sending the original birth certificate our only option? Or should we work harder to find a notary? I know the bank lobbies are closed too.

I can't help there I just used a bank notary, you could check your local CVS or Walgreens. I've heard that they sometimes provide those services as well.

Many states have relaxed the requirement for "in person" notarization, and allow "virtual" notary with specified safeguards. You can check your Secretary of State website for details. (There is probably a list of notaries on the website as well...I've never checked because my Firm probably has more notaries per capita than any place I know...all of our attorneys and most of our support staff are notaries).

My DS sent his original birth certificate by registered mail to USNA and received it back in the mail in a couple of weeks. This was 2018, however. Your mileage may vary.

UPS has notary services

UPS Stores are essential and remain open. They usually offer notary services, but I recommend calling to see if that is available right now.

Ditto Staples.

There are also mobile notaries who come to you. You can search for them and see if they are working and what their COVID practice is.

As noted above, many states are allowing virtual/remote notaries and witnesses for legal documents. As a matter of routine, we had started updating our estate documents and healthcare directives in late January, and have been at all stop until MD came up with its approved methods. We’ll be doing the remote thing in the next two weeks. Clunky but legal.

DS mailed his original BC with SASE and it was returned promptly last month. He works in one town, goes to school in another and we live in the county. He dropped SASE and police record check at county sheriff office, and both police depts. He included a cover letter explaining why it was necessary, they all completed them and mailed them in, they do show in his portal.

Should plebes to be bring their wallets to I-Day, and if not, do they just hand over their ssc and suggested amount of cash in a ziploc bag?

mine is taking his watch, cell phone/charger, wallet and his ptr. That's it. What he can't have they will secure and give to him when allowed.

our UPS store is open....I had to overnight something and the employee was actually doing a notarized document for another customer - try there!

You hand literally everything over. Well, not everything: Your underwear and running shoes you can keep. Detailers will keep it in a safe place and you’ll get it back for PPW.

We sent the original birth cert. with a self-addressed return envelope and it got sent back to us a couple weeks later.
