Hey all,
To start I believe I am a fairly strong candidate for the AROTC scholarship. I have a 4.06 weighted and 3.9 unweighted gpa, as well as lettered in baseball and football while being a captain for my baseball team. I am also a cadet officer in my Navy JROTC program. I also have some other stuff that helps me out on the application such as club leadership positions and job. My main point is that I did bad on my PT test. I scored a 122 on my test. So my question is, does the board only consider my PT test for the athletics section or my whole athletic background such as my lettering in baseball and football and being a team captain? I know I will lose points on my PT test and would they even consider my athletic background based on my PT test? thanks in advance for anyone that replies!

This was posted on another thread last week to get an idea of the “weight” of each of the scored areas:

I don't have any personal insight into this, but @Montana State Army ROTC said this in another thread "See my board post. He’ll get hammered at a board with 120pts. Redo and go to the 3rd board with a strong file." The other thread did not give any other facts regarding the candidate's athletics, so I don't know if its applicable to your situation. Just a heads up that you may want to redo the PFA and delay when you are boarded (if that is an option).

The PT test will have to stand on its own. It is the official measure of a candidates physical fitness. As has been stated, work towards getting the score up. What parts are you struggling with?

So how it works is that your sports activities will be considered as EC/Leadership category while your PT score will be something on its own. You do need to do better on the PT

Guidance trend shaping that you should prioritize and improve your PFT score. Another benefit is that beyond the test, for your high volume of physical activity on campus, it will be exponentially easier / less stressful when you're prepared/ ready for it. Can you make this a daily priority and improve those scores in the next 45 days? Would you regret improving your scores and getting physically ready for ROTC/ serving? GL.

The PT scores are a big part of the application and are going to be an important part of your fitrep when you get out into the military. When you are in your respective unit the PFT will be one of the most important parts of your semester. Prior athletic experience will not matter if you cannot get a good score on the PFT. Continue improving your scores and do practice PFTs so you can get used to doing the events in order. Physical fitness is of the utmost importance in the military. You don’t want to be that officer who struggles with PT and loses the respect of your soldiers.
