Plane crash into the Potomac

Watching the breaking news now.
Air temp 37 degrees. Water will be darn cold.

Per reports, regional jet, American Eagle with AA flight number.

I am hoping and praying for all souls aboard and the safety of the responders. Lots of resources there for water response.

Watching local news coverage. Both the plane and helicopter haven’t been located.
Time is the enemy now.

What media channel are you watching?
First reports are going to be all over the place.

CBS reported a Sikorsky H-60, but we know that comes in different flavors including the ones in HMX-1.

Was the plane inbound or outbound? I always find myself thinking of fuel onboard at impact time.

Inbound from Wichita, reportedly.

From NBC-4 DC News app:
An FAA statement says: "A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 p.m. local [Eastern] time. PSA was operating Flight 5342 as American Airlines. It departed from Wichita, Kansas."

4 people pulled alive from water

The video is devastating to watch. Looks as if both aircraft disintegrated, with everything falling hard and fast.

News like this is always heartbreaking. But seems to hit harder when it happens somewhere you're from or used to live. I spent four years inside the Beltway and met DW there. My townhouse was in Arlington, less than a 10-minute drive from Reagan National. I flew in and out of that airport regularly. Coming back, I remember the steep banks and hard turns of the approach from the west.

When DD was at USNA and Quantico, we usually flew in and out of Reagan when we visited. We'd stop in the District too, seeing old haunts. So this one hurts more than others.
