how many people are in each plebe summer platoon? if a platoon is 40 some people then how could there be a-z companies with 30 platoons each for just the plebe class?

CandidateElias15...I haven't stopped worrying yet:eek: We have not received anything yet here in Iowa!!

Do not worry, I have not received anything yet in your neighbor state (the great state of Nebraska).

I believe someone explained the summer company assignments in another thread (and did a great job), but I will try to summarize it. During plebe summer there are 15 Companies (16 if you include Tango Company, which is the company that plebes go to that are thinking about leaving). Each Plebe summer company is made up of 2 platoons. Each platoon has around 40 plebes, therefore each Plebe summer company has around 80 plebes. Your platoon number will become the number of your company once AC year starts. Therefore, if during the summer you are assigned to M Company/ 23rd Platoon, once the AC year starts you will join your upperclass Midshipmen in 23rd Company.

A Company is made up of 1st and 2nd Platoons
B Company is made up of 3rd and 4th Platoons
C Company is made up of 5th and 6th Platoons
D Company is made up of 7th and 8th Platoons
.....
M Company is made up of 23rd and 24th Platoons
N Company is made up of 25th and 26th Platoons
O Company is made up of 27th and 28th Platoons
P Company is made up of 29th and 30th Platoons

(There is no "J" Company)

I guess I should also mention that each platoon get's broken down into several squads. If I remember correctly from last year each squad was made up of around 10 plebes (someone can correct me if I'm wrong).

kokopuffs: So long as you know that USNA received your acceptance of your appointment and the paperwork you were supposed to send back from your PTR, you're fine.

It really doesn't matter if you know your company/platoon assignment until I-day. Absolutely the ONLY difference it can make is whether your parents send your first care package on the day before I-day or the day after. Even that doesn't matter, because that package isn't going to get to you/your new Plebe until someone from 2012 goes to pick it up (along with all other mail for the squad) from the USNA Post Office.

Let me tell you. As a rising youngster at the Naval Academy. there are two companies with notorious reputations: 25th company (which would be 25th platoon of November company during plebe summer) are the Bearsharks, every company has a mascot and that is 25's. 25 is known throughout the brigade as being the "worst" company with the most motivated detailers, training staff, and upperclass who will make the plebes do the stupidest stuff in order to try and win color company or appear as the most "military" company or whatever their goal is. 13th company (g company 13th platoon) is the 25th company of first regiment (I am assuming that you have an understanding of the brigade structure). While they are not as severe/extremist as 25, they are the strictest/worst company of first regiment. your son will do fine in this platoon;i had not heard about 13th's reputation until second semester which shows that they are not so hated as to encourage detailers to brainwash plebes of second regiment against them, just let him know that life could be worse as a bearshark. I even have a friend in 13th company who disproves 13's rep as first regiment's 25.

If you have any questions, feel free to message me. I am part of the great class of 2014 and am willing to answer any questions that arise.

How is the reputation of A company 1st platoon which would be 1st company during the ac year?

Gubernator..my DS is N/25...now you have completely freaked out an already freaked out mom:eek:

Got mine in Florida yesterday. B Company, 4th Platoon. Can anyone say what 4th Company is like?

If 25th company has the most motivated detailers, training staff, etc and try so hard to win color company; Please explain why their sister company 26th, has won color company 2 out of the past 3 semisters? Also, great class of 2014, bit pompous don't you think? I'm sure members of 2013 & 2012 would have an alternate viewpoint.

To the incoming class of 2015, your company assignments are random and you have no control over them, so do not worry about it. If you do not know your company assignment before I-Day, don't sweat it, you will be told on I-Day. Each company may have a slightly different personality but overall they are not that different across the brigade. In any case your company will be your home for the next 4 years, it's up to you to make the most and best of it.

Well since I started this thread, I would like to ask any current midshipmen about O 27. Thanks

13th company (g company 13th platoon) is the 25th company of first regiment (I am assuming that you have an understanding of the brigade structure). While they are not as severe/extremist as 25, they are the strictest/worst company of first regiment.

But the Firsties who ran Golf Company, 13th platoon, have all graduated. There is really no way of knowing, for sure, that the new Firsties will be as strict or be similarly motivated.

Subsequent "generations" can have a whole new character ... sometimes.

Although, that is often not the case. So, there may be some validity in what you're saying. It's not uncommon for the underclassmen to model the upperclassmen so that when they become Firsties - they frequently run things in the same manner that they've personally experienced.

MIDNDAD...I thought you changed company/platoon after plebe summer??

Also, I thought detailers were different each year so how can they know what a particular platoon will be like during plebe summer...I have sooo much to learn!!!

Any of the letter companies exist only for plebe summer. In your case N company is a blend of 25th and 26th companies. The detailers for plebe summer N company will come from both 25th and 26th company. There will actully be 2 sets of detailers over the course of plebe summer. You will hear them referred to as first set and second set. For the detailers plebe summer is a roughly 4 week summer training block. The detailers are just learning different lessons than a plebe. They are learning to lead. Plebes are leaning to follow.

After plebe summer the letter companies dissappear and in your case your son will be part of 25th company.

In an above post Memphis is correct. The personality of each company can change significantly due to the firsty's that have graduated. Sometimes this can be a positive change and sometimes not. Again, nothing you can control.
