My USNA application is almost ready! I have completed everything needed except for my BGO interview (Already Scheduled) and my DoDMERB(Also Already scheduled) I have also been nominated 3 times (Senator, representative, and JROTC). I pray that I will receive an appointment! Please send me any advice for DoDMERB (the only thing I am worried about for DoDMERB is my weight, I am technically overweight by their standards. However I carry my weight well and much of that weight is muscle. I hope I am granted some sort of waiver.)

What does "technically overweight" mean? Is this just a few pounds? If that's the case, lose weight before your physical or have a plan to lose weight in place to be within limits as soon as is humanly possible.

If memory serves, DODMERB measures weight and height but the SA decides whether someone can be admitted who does not meet the standards. IOW, it's not a medical standard per se. Obviously, football players who weigh close to 300 pounds are admitted. They may calculate BMI and also will look at your CFA / sports. If you have low body fat, do well on the CFA and are active in sports, weight alone may not be a DQ. However, it's an individual determination.

What is your sport?

Are you doing anything other than praying to reduce your weight?

I don't know the answer, but I have heard that you can drop weight healthily by starting intermittent fasting and keto diet which has helped some others. Best of luck to you

Pray while eating a high-protein, low-carb, low-fat diet.

Pray while watching your serving sizes and maintaining mealtime discipline.

Pray while exercising regularly, with a mix of rigorous cardio and challenging weights.

God helps those who help themselves. 😉

Yes! I actually am on a diet. I am a martial artist. I do MMA, Karate, Jujitsu and Judo. I am also the Unit Commander for AFJROTC and was the Physical Fitness Officer for my Junior ROTC Unit. I am used to cutting weight for competitions.

Even if I knew your body mass or body fat % I'd be totally unqualified to give you advice, but I would think that losing 8-10 pounds would be doable.

I would advise you, however, to look at the process from a longer term perspective, instead of just "cutting weight for competitions". It appears that you have established your bona fides in athletics for the purpose of earning an appointment, so you would be well advised to give priority to making the chart. Your overall health should come first.

Wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.
