No, but if you are worried about it, then perhaps there is something you need to update. Generally only certain organizations investigations for clearances require polygraphs

A poly is also for certainly clearances. I can't imagine you would need such a clearance as a cadet candidate....

Agree with above posters. You may find out more if you do a search of "polygraph" which yielded 33 results.

And there are different types of polygraphs. Would be surprised if one is needed at as Cadet unless they have some sort of special internship or summer training. I can't remember any of us having a Polygraph as Mids. I think my first one was around the 3-4 year mark of active duty.

It depends. A cadet could get selected for specific internship at an organization that requires the employee to have successfully passed a polygraph before granting access to their building or to their IT network.

But, for the original poster, this is not a common occurrence for a majority of the school.

Yes and no, LITS. The number of internship opportunities for USAFA, USMA and USNA students at certain major commands needing it are bigger than ever. OP may have interest there.

I was a Captain before I took a poly...and ONLY because I was on a.... project.

Depends on the type of polygraph. Some are pretty simple and no issue at all. The lifestyle poly was soul crushing. It was like the longest confession of everything I ever done wrong in my life. By the time I was hooked up to the machine 4 hours later I just wanted to curl up in the fetal position. I asked every person who gave the poly after if it was like that everyone... everyone of them said... "Oh its much worse. You are like a girl scout. You should see people who have done really wrong things."

No.
<----- never took a poly (and never really had the desire to)

Does anybody actually want to do a poly? That said, I can think of at least 15 classmates who have taken them-previous posters are right, internships are pretty much the only reason you'll be required to do one at an academy.

As an ex-cop, I just have to laugh every time I see the polygraph mentioned in relation to fishing tournaments. Do they not realize how WORTHLESS these tests are?

Hubs was an O5 before he had a poly, is an intel-o with all the clearances and didn't have one until he worked for a specific command. They are not fun. A friend failed 3 times and after months more of investigating they attributed it to being Catholic, no joke.

Put a thumbtack in your shoe. When you lie step on it. I saw this in the movies. ;)

I took three voice stress tests. First time I didn’t sleep the night before. To calm my fears, the guy did an experiment. He put seven boxes in front of me and told me to select one and pick it up after he turned his back.

He told me to lie about which one I picked up. He asked me for each one if I picked that one up. I intentionally tried to act nervous when I answered one truthfully and lied as instructed on the one I picked up.

He paused when analyzing the one I answered truthfully. At the end he nailed which one I was lying about. I lost all fear.

Took and passed all three exams with flying colors.

Bottom line - don’t lie.

Interesting first post. You’re bringing up a 6-year-old thread to say this?
